One of the Best Places To Visits in Etal Frequently mentioned in reviews: Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. A cosy and inviting Pub / Restaurant offering food offers ( see posters for terms and conditions). Only popped in for a pot of tea , but was excellent. Toilets were clean and well maintained, with easy access from Bar . Bar provided seating for eating and drinking , we chose a comfortable sofa near an open fire / log burner . Ideal when weather is clement . Friendly and helpful made our simple Visit a relaxing break in our day . Dog friendly- which is always a plus+ Food was a little disappointing but not mega expensive so can't complain! Varied menu although missing a few dishes fairly early into the evening! Nice and dog friendly! September 2024: Quite a disappointing experience for a looking venue. From the outside, this place looks with a nice layout and outside seating area around the back. Ordered sandwiches from the light bites menu. Place wasn't overly busy but took over an hour to make the order - not a problem but no update or apologies during this time. Kitchen could be heard shouting, moaning and talking about customers in the restaurant which isn't great at all. Kitchen also seen wearing no kitchen whites/PPE (just tracksuits and sliders) and storage cupboards with cleaning products left open. Sandwiches are a bit of a disappointment - nothing special about them for the price. Bacon sandwich was also rather 'sad' looking. This place is definitely not worth the money and I won't be returning. Dine with the locals! Enjoy great and superb food. building! The bartender was helpful to us foreigners and we had a meal. We went for dinner on a Tuesday without a reservation and still got a table. I ordered chicken with rice and my husband had a burger. There was a small misunderstanding with my order (I wanted rice instead of fries), so I had to wait a few extra minutes, but it was quickly sorted out. The food was enjoyable and the was good—staff were attentive and friendly. A recommended place if you’re around Etal! Poor service, in fact very poor service. Over an hour from ordering to service. When we politely asked how much longer we would need to wait, the waitress advised she would get an estimate. The chef could be overheard bad mouthing the customer, telling them to be patient and it would be another half hour. We only ordered from the snack menu. Bacon sandwich had 2 rashers only and hot dog without the advertised onion rings. Really food, steak and ale pie was spot on and fish and chips was good. Dog in the function room. Need to fix there speaker in the function room cos it keeps going on and off which was really annoying. Toilets need some TLC as well as they were dirty and everything was broken. Nice pub overall. Plenty of meat in my steak & ale pie! The dish was full of meat compared to other places. little place just off the main road to visit. Nice to have a Guinness out in the sun and see tourists visiting on their motorcycles. Pleasantly clean and varied seating areas indoors and out. We cycled from Kelso then waded over the ford to head back again to make a circular route. That ford may not be passable in wetter months! Would visit again thanks. The Black Bull is under new management so we thought we would give it a try and we was not disappointed. Great food, and great beers brewed at their own brewery on the estate. There were four of us eating and we had three course all as equally tasty as the last. I will be recommending the Bull to all as they have really turned the place around, congratulations and luck. Second Visit, March 25. New management.1st time just randomly popped in and impressed by lay out, cleanliness and staff, we just had a cheeky pudding each and they were so called back for Sunday Lunch and was not disappointed. Beef, Pork or Lamb, veg etc, all lovely, then puds again smashing, nice pub grub, lovely, polite and on point, Dog friendly. All in all genuinely nice pub and will be back. Very enjoyable lunch time drink and light bite. Would highly recommend. Also really enjoyed the local beer on tap. Unfortunately a really disappointing experience. We stood at the bar for about 5 minutes before someone came to seat us. The dog section is very dingy compared to the rest of the pub. We only ordered soup with a toasted sandwich and nachos. It took about an hour to come. My partner had the nachos, they had virtually no cheese on them and looked very unappetising. My sandwich and soup was ok, but not worth the wait. We came to Heatherslaw for a day visit. Took the mini train to Etal and needed some food with the family. Nice and cosy place. Food was and the were nice as they came over to our table to take our food order. If we ever visit the area again, we’ll be back. Very food (excellent steak and ale pie and peppercorn chicken).Generous portions. cosy room for us and our dog away from the main bar. Very relaxed atmosphere.Beer and cider very good. Excellent , we'll be back. Excellent meal and service. The are young, but we're very good. There were twelve of us and the food arrived promptly. Thank you.
