We didn’t stay, but booked a meal Tuesday night, our choice arrived and quickly realised it wasn’t up to scratch. Our second choice was excellent, my curry dish, the meat was tender, not over hot with the sauce. Followed by a peach Bellini, just delightful Great country pub with rooms. We did not stay so can't comment on the rooms. The pub is a good size with lots of old period features such as open fires. (Not applicable as we visited in summer). Good and we had a variety of food over 3 visits. All very well home cooked and very tasty. We also tried the Sunday roast which includes a variety of cost options per portion of meat with endless Veg for each option. We particularly liked the roast carrots and cauliflower cheese. Normal includes light bites option and we would recommend the lasagna although everything thing we tried was very good with generous portions (we had to go light bites after day 1!) Marnhull is the fictional setting for Tess of the d'Urbervilles and the Crown features as the Pure Drop Inn. One of those rare finds - professionally run pub and rooms with great staff and friendly publican. A thriving village pub with great rooms. Portions are huge, but the quality is also lovely. I had a friendly, happy soul as my waitress who made me feel welcome. The food was freshly come and prompt. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A True Dorset Gem I recently visited The Crown in Marnhull and was completely charmed from start to finish. The setting is picture-perfect – a quintessential English village pub with a welcoming atmosphere the moment you step inside. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier – attentive without being intrusive, and clearly proud of the place. The offered a great balance of hearty pub classics and more refined seasonal dishes. My meal was absolutely delicious – beautifully cooked, generous portions, and packed with flavour. The pub itself has a cosy, characterful interior with roaring fires and rustic charm, while the garden is perfect for a sunny afternoon pint. There’s a real sense of community here – it feels like the kind of place where locals and visitors alike are genuinely welcome. Whether you’re looking for a proper Sunday roast, a casual drink, or a memorable meal, The Crown ticks every box. It’s the sort of pub that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommended! My husband and I eat here regularly but something has changed. Went last night 21 June, different menu, not many options for me, poor food and not at all what we would expect. Wrong order came out for my husband so I ate alone whilst they sorted it. My husbands food tasted very strange and the bread was hard. It was surprisingly quiet in the bar and regular staff weren't there. It seems the establishment is under new management or was it a bad night. Won't be going back soon. Disappointed Was supposed to be a nice family treat while visiting parents who recently moved to this area but ended up being a shame. Food was poor. Peas on the scampi were so dry and old I couldn’t eat them. “Seasonal veg” was an extremely small portion of mushed veg dumped on the side of the plate. Lamb flatbread was dry and bland. Venison pie was so dry we had to ask for extra gravy. Food took 35-40mins to arrive. It’s a shame as the looked lovely but could tell it was mostly batch cooked and reheated. Reduce the and focus on the dishes and it could be good. Service felt quite hostile. For the price you pay for “pub classics” you expect it to be edible.
