This was our first visit, and we were so impressed. Although it’s a small heritage railway, there’s plenty to see and do. While passenger trains aren’t running yet, it’s exciting to see the progress being made toward their return. The staff were incredibly and took the time to explain how everything worked, which made the even more enjoyable. The café was a highlight, offering plenty of seating options—indoors, outdoors, or even in a train carriage! The prices were very reasonable too. Parking is currently limited, but we were pleased to hear a new car park is on its way. Highly recommended for a wonderful day out! Great place for train enthusiasts. Good with service. Dog friendly. Loved visiting this beautifully restored station, located in the heart of North Dorset and lovingly maintained by hard working volunteers. Hopefully in the future they can restore more of the track and link it to another station. Nice, clean, place. Spent almost a half a day. The kids enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful country views Bringing back a steam that was closed and torn up in 1965. A brilliant, utterly charming slice of nostalgia! 🚂 The are a tremendously keen bunch, keeping the spirit of the old Somerset & Dorset line alive. The ride itself is currently a "pleasantly short potter" up the line and back, but the atmosphere, the museum, and the cracking views over the Dorset countryside (Hambledon Hill!) make it a genuinely lovely way to spend an hour. Me and some of my good friends from work walked from Sturminster Newton all the way to Shillington train and it was a challenging but brilliant walk.
