The Udder Farm Shop

Gillingham, United Kingdom Farm shop

A good healthy fry up, with proper sausages a good coffee & a clean place. What more could you ask for. Not a bad price either. The farm shop is fantastic but what a poor experience in the coffee shop! Our first trip here, we arrived just after 1:30 on a Saturday and were told they can't do any food off the menu other than cakes off the counter. "Not even a sandwich?" - apparently not. But then the table next to us got a sandwich!! Asked if we could buy a roll in the adjoining Deli and eat it in the cafe with the drinks we purchased in the cafe, we were told 'no - but you can take them outside'. This experience has really taken the shine off our day out today - very disappointing experience. I could have spent endless hours pouring over everything in the shop. It’s a beauty to behold in the eyes of an American. There are assortments of wonderful pastries, cakes, cookies and breads. All types of condiments and sauces. An extensive meat counter with varieties of meat and fish (I regret to say my sausage and bacon from there were immediately seized upon my return to the US). Of course there are cheeses, spreads, pate and a great frozen section of many items including ready meals. The staff was friendly and the items I was able to enjoy (like the smoked trout terrine and a steak & kidney pie) were absolutely amazing Great breakfast. Quality food, comfortable table and easy parking. Coupled with a fair price what's not to like Such a beautiful shop! Such pretty gifts and goodies all laid out so thoughtfully. As a mum I loved the children’s section, it was surprisingly large with a great selection of toys, puzzles and games to explore and we bought some lovely unusual fun gifts (as well as lots of delicious grown up treats from the delicatessen!) The loo and baby change facilities were well maintained. The best part for us was the playground. Next to a spacious seating area there is a climbing frame suitable for little ones, a large connect four game and mini football goals (with 2 footballs - they’re flat but still work fine). A lovely visit, thank you! What a find! We were looking for an EV charging point & ended up having a very pleasant 45 minutes with coffee & cake 😁 Very tempted to stay for the Italian evening meal but needed to drive on! Lovely food, great atmosphere and brilliant amenities for kids and adults alike. We had a family reunion here, and was accommodated nicely, we will visit again! I would just like to say what a pleasure it was to go to the Udder Farm Restaurant in East Stour. I easily found a good meal I could eat without having to exclude half the plate. I can not eat wheat or dairy. Not only did the Udder breakfast come as a gluten free option but when I ordered and said no butter please as I can't have cows milk, I was offered dairy free spread. No fuss made and very understanding which made me feel that it was all just a normal occurance, what a joy. The plate came out clearly marked gluten free. The toast was surprisingly delicious given GF bread is not always the tastiest and the spread was also very tasty, again not always the case with dairy free. Looking at the menu there was a good choice of GFO options. So, thank you Udder. At least I know I can eat at your restaurant and always find something good that I can eat.
