There is some evidence of Roman visitation, the first fortification of the site was the construction of a Norman motte. A medieval church was built on the in the 15th century. The current ruined church on top of the was built in 1793. The land and ruin were donated to the National Trust in 1946 as a war memorial. A great little to it (15 min) from the car park, some great views, if you want to read more about it visit the National Trust site, they have a lot more information. This was a lovely little place, well pulling over for a look. A very short up a and you have great in every direction. The old ruin on the top of the was quite impressive and well maintained. There was parking at the bottom with an information sign. Parking for around twenty cars. It's to enter, there's an honesty box to donate for car park. Tip, wear good fitting footwear, the climb is quite steep, if it's been raining be very careful as coming back down is slippery. Great from the top Great for photos,a bit of a climb though if you're not in good condition, especially in the dark. Superb of the Somerset levels definitely walking to the top. You will not be disappointed. Beautiful butterflies in the summer sunshine ☀️👍🏻🦋 Very and I imagine very slippy if wet, so take decent shoes with you. They're were sheep about and lots of sheep droppings on the top. it for the views. Utterly stunning! Always love a wander up Burrow Mump. Fantastic of the Somerset levels. You can then pop in the King Alfred for a pint😁 One of my favourites, incredibly picturesque on top of a with 360 degree of the countryside. The structure is small but so architecturally beautiful and photographic. Excellent mound with a church ruin atop. A satisfying incline to get the heart pumping. Fantastic could clearly see Glastonbury Tor on this clear day. Nit busy wonderful 360 and serene. The Michael line both male and female telluric energy lines cross here. Peace. The is far reaching and the small ruined church is very atmospheric. The only downside is there is no 'made' path. Its grass sides have ridges that help the ascent but if its wet... It becomes a mudslide and coming down can catch you out. Unfortunately this happened to a poor lady we met and she had to do the descent with an injured knee, no easy feat. You have been warned! Lovely place for a Great from the top. You can then to local pub and along the River Parrot. Very to climb, uneven ground often covered with sheep poo. But totally it! The are absolutely incredible. The best place to do when wanting to watch a sunset/sunrise or any kind of sky activity. Especially beautiful at night! These are some of the photos I've taken at different times. Not bad for a little walk. Sheep can get startled easy so be aware of them and not get so close or make loud noises. It is a to get to the top and lots of poo so make sure you have proper shoes It's to here and look around - so easy to stop off on the way to or from somewhere for half an hour. The slope is so take your time and maybe wear walking boots/shoes or old trainers if the weather has been bad. You get good for miles around from the top and you can get some nice artistic photos of the ruins, especially if you visit when the sun is low. We went on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, stunning and plenty of photo opportunities. Small parking available and a pub a short away. What more do you want? Sheep in the fields. The Somerset Levels were sodden, giving some idea what it might have been like previously, before the levels were drained. Great place for a picnic on a nice day. Could spend hours up there, just relaxing, reading. Take a thermos of coffee. Go and enjoy it. National Trust looks after it, but it's to go up. Bit steep, but it's a hill. It's an odd place to review as there's not much here apart from the ruins and sheep. The is great, especially at sunset so it's a quick trip for that. Idyllic countryside setting with across the Somerset levels and far reaching to Glastonbury tor. Ample parking with a donation box for voluntary contribution with a suggested £2. Good location for a picnic or wander on down from the mump to the local public house (closed Monday and Tuesday) just below behind the church. Like a very small Glastonbury tour with much easier parking! I wouldn't drive miles to get here, but it's a delightful from the top after a short up, if you happen to be passing. Happened upon this by accident. We thought it had a better feeling than Glastonbury. The perfect place to watch a sunset. Plenty of parking, a (ish) climb but so it. Amazing Great quick stop on the way back from a day out. National Trust car with voluntary contributions if wanted. Short climb uphill to get to the top but it for the views. A great place to start a walk. The from the top are brilliant you can see as far as Glastonbury Tor (if you have really good eyesight) and off across the Levels. The sheep are fun so keep your dog on a lead. The car is better signposted if you are coming from Taunton but it is plenty big enough. There is a pub close by although there is no footpath for the short along the road. Great location! I think like many landmarks it is underrated but yet a beautiful location from where you can the amazing Somerset level. Just a small hike give you a wonderful peneromic view. A very interesting feature rising out of the Somerset Levels. Only a 24 meter high hill, but that is ample for long reaching across the levels. We stopped off on our way up country and it was a lovely little diversion, breaking up the journey. The car is not desirable, particularly for motorbikes, but expected in these remote locations. a stop. I've spent a few nights there with my camera enjoying the peace and quiet and I've been treated with beautiful sunsets/sunrises.
