Found this place when we were visiting local National Trust properties. So glad we did. Friday evening and we hadn't booked but thought we'd give it a go. The number of cars in the carpark was a good sign of it's popularity and it was soon filling up just after 6pm. made us welcome straight away and trying the selection of ciders on tap before choosing wasn't a drama at all. Neither was the fact we'd not booked, as we were accommodated without bother. were very good at explaining what was what and any tweaks to our selection wasn't a problem at all. I had a blanchebait starter ( a type of white fish in breadcrumbs) and the wife had a South African beef curry. (Plenty of choices for starter, main and dessert). Both and really decent platefuls, which meant we didn't have room for anything else! Excellent value for money as well, so would recommend to anyone. The sticky toffee pudding and locally inspired specials were out of this world. There was one fundamental element of my dinner and my friends was well below par, it was all grissle and chewy. My partner has the lamb and that was lovely. The rest of the was lovely. Pudding was fabulous. and atmosphere was welcoming and really pleasant. Just let down by a bad cut of meat that must of been noticeable when plating up. 😔 We took a chance at this place whilst staying in the area. To say it's dog is an understatement, treats and a bowl of water were provided for our Labrador before we'd even ordered our lunch. The Sunday lunch hit the spot and the Yorkshire pudding was the best I've had for along time. Service was exemplary and we were made to very welcome. Highly recommended. It’s set in some gardens and is such a stunning building. The inside matches the outside untouched and has loads of charm and character. We were greeted by a member, so polite and friendly. The is a fusion of cultures, good old English, Indian and South African. You’ll definitely find the food flavoursome and there’s plenty of it. There’s the normal pub grub, burgers, ham egg and chips or go off piste with SA beef bobotie you won’t be disappointed. The chips!! Wow these are the best ever, crispy on the out side and fluffy on the inside, absolutely delicious. The only thing I’d like to have seen is home made mayo, not that shop bought is bad it’s just everything else is superbly made. It’s a shame is so far away as we’d be there and again but if we’re in the area again this will be definitely seeing us again. Also had the side of cauliflower cheese that can served in its own skillet. Can't remember the last I had beef in a restaurant that was served pink, just the way it should be. Excellent. For dessert I had the lemon sponge that came with a load of delicious custard. The sponge was really light and made for the perfect end to the meal. When I arrived I received a warm welcome from the owner I believe Jason? He had secured the private room for me which was beautifully decorated already! were attentive but discreet when clearing plates & taking orders. It felt personal which was lovely. We will be back We came across this gem whilst returning from our break to North Devon and we’re grateful we took the opportunity to stop in. We were greeted by Jason the owner and his very and helpful , it’s easy to anxious when far from home entering a public house but my family and myself were made to at ease immediately. We were informed about our seating options and given it was a hot day we chose to sit in the beautiful Willow Garden but not before having a sneak peek of the Secret Garden offering a more shaded option. Our children loved the willow garden and the space offered to them to allow them to have a run around. We settled down for dinner, my wife opting for the Sea bass fillet with garlic, chilli and ginger oil stir fry with veg and fries from the specials and I choosing the Bacon and cheddar burger. We were both very impressed by the quality and the tasting food. My wife even called her sister to tell her that she’d made a mistake in choosing to go for typical service station fast food over a tasting meal. The burger made with locally sourced produce was the best burger I’d had in a long time. We’re both disappointed that we live 2.5 hours away from the Lime Kiln Inn but will make sure we stop in again should we be passing through again. We understand that Jason has taken the reigns since December but recommend any locals to go back to this once struggling pub to appreciate the change. The Lime Kiln Inn is in the best hands! Freezing inside, had to keep my coat in the entire time. Waited 50 minutes for our food to come out, in that time, no one offered us anymore drinks. Went to the bar 3 times before we managed to get some. No apology for massive wait for food. Food was okay, nothing special & not worth the fancy price. Chips with the burger tasted like frozen chips. Hardly any gravy with the fagots, only 1 carrot. Onion rings were greasy & actually, inedible. Pudding was okay, had the crumble, again, nothing special. Eventually managed to ask someone for the bill, which was brought to us, with the cheek of a tip added already! Felt rude asking to remove it but very much begrudge paying it. Wouldn’t recommend or re-visit. Very disappointing, as we attended for a special birthday & felt it was ruined. Loved this place.
