What a wonderful location to have a cafe right beside the river barrow, situated between Graiguenamanagh and Newross town. We went camping at St Mullin's camping site and the next day we ventured around the area to view some historical buildings, churches, graves of kings, rivers and found this lovely cafe which is probably one of the most nicest places to eat lunch, with scenery, friendly staff and good service. Definitely will return in the future, well done to owners and staff. A true hidden gem! The cafe is around a beautiful river side area, with a natural beauty that is truly stunning - some how different to what we are used to in Ireland. We seated outside and the tables had some fly swatter in case needed (although we only used to fly away some need that came to check the food). We had pizza, salad and chicken wings - and the highlight was defo the goats cheese salad. I wouldn’t say the food is the star of the show, but it pairs in a way with the view and atmosphere. In a sunny day there’s people just laying around the river soaking the sun, some swimming and I could see a lot of boats stopping buy. You also have the inside area, that is quite big - so in case the weather is not the better, you can still walk around to enjoy the view and have your meal, or coffee, in a cozy place. The service was spotless, both for taking our order and for bringing food. I highly recommend a visit to this place! place near the river. It’s at the border of Carlow and Kilkenny county. Place is around 35-40 min drive from Carlow town. They had lots of vegetarian options and taste was nice. Staff were and experienced. Portions was also enough and price was also not too bad. It was a damp overcast day, we had our 2 dogs with us and were told we could bring them inside while having lunch, We decided to stay outside. We had soup with home made brown bread. The soup was really hot and very welcome. A toasted sandwich with salad, which we shared. We will go back there again . Seldom do I give full sets of 5 stars but Mullichain Cafe by the Barrow had me from the front door . A warm fire glow inside was very welcoming on our october visit today. A cosy, warm but bright old riverside building inside. Upstairs also homely set up with tables & book shelves. Food was delicious & my tomato soup & bread was as homemade as it gets. It closes at 5.30 I understand. Lovely friendly staff as well, met the owner & he gave us the back story while he helped clear away tables . It closes after Halloween for the winter. Will be back. We just had tea and scones, apple tarts. But I’ve eaten more on other visits. It’s always nice. The atmosphere is just perfect - lots of history and local intrigue. The service is warm and welcoming. This place is a must to bring visitors. Such a lovely place. We had wraps, a Caesar salad, brownies, and caramel waffles. They make their veggies taste really great, and the desserts were a delight as well. Great food, friendly staff, a cozy place decorated with lore bites - and the scenery right in front of the café on a rare sunny day is just perfect. Beautiful place definitely worth a visit. Very welcoming staff and great food which can then be walked off along the stunning River walk.
