What a great place to stay in your motorhome or caravan and have a drink/ in the pub on site! Like having your own pub in your back garden! The site facilities are excellent too with EHU, clean showers, toilet block, washing facilities. Note there is no motorhome service point for grey waste. But you do get satellite tv hookup and your own fresh water tap! The pub has a good range of beers and excellent food with helpful staff. The river wye is a short walk away. A wonderful, welcoming country pub. One of the best Sunday roasts we've ever had. Very reasonable, plentiful meat and food each veg and exceptional staff! Only just outside Hay on Wye we'd highly recommend. We booked a Sunday roast carvery. I will say it was excellent and I will definitely be returning. The were all and helpful. Lovely pub with plenty of inside and outside space including a super play area for children. We only ordered chips as a mid afternoon snack, but the chips were lovely! Stayed for 3 nights in log cabin on site. Stunning area, rolling hills, quiet. Plenty of scenic areas to visit. Cabin was fitted out to a high standard, hot tub was a great addition on the outside deck. Restaurant open Saturday and Sunday for food which is homely, great portion sizes and well priced. A must try. Carol and Ian could not do enough to make us feel welcome. Would absolutely recommend a stay here. So, it was shut. However the best possible of news, by the end of June this delightful pub is being reopened with Danny from The Boat at Whitney taking over the reigns! This Pub is going to be outstanding! Good food, generous portions, good beer, and reasonable prices. Had two meals here while on holidays, food was excellent, staff, would definitely go again This has to be hands down the worst I have ever had! Chips were so over cooked they were rock hard and there was no potato left in them, we ordered rib eye steak as per the menu but they bought out rump and when we complained they said ribeye shouldn’t be on the menu! The burgers were disgusting couldn’t really call it a burger, what ever that was it was not meat! Most of the food went back to the kitchen! The waitresses were very polite and they done their job very well, the lady in charge didn’t handle our complaint well and stood and argued with us. I wouldn’t visit this place again even if I was paid to do so! Had an amazing 2 nights at The Castlefields in one of their log cabins. The cabin was fully equipped to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. The unit was spacious and had a flow out onto the deck, outdoor seating area and to the hot tub. There were gowns provided and large towels. Our in the restaurant was stunning. I had a very generous portion of the chicken curry. The service from the was excellent. The accomodation is suitable for my elderly parents so I will definitely be booking to come back with them. We visited nearby Hay on Wye which was 5 minutes away and very quaint with all of its bookshops, antique stores and independents. Thanks to the hosts Ian and Carol for a weekend. I will be back! We went to Castlefields on the back of “good reviews.” In hindsight, I can only assume those reviews were either written by the chef’s mother or someone who mistook the place for an entirely different restaurant. The starters lulled us into a false sense of security — edible, even enjoyable. Then the mains arrived, or rather 18 of them did, with the 19th showing up fashionably late, five minutes after everyone else. Lucky them. The chips tasted like they’d been reheated more times than a bad pub quiz joke. The burgers? Let’s just say I’ve got serious questions about both the species and the body part involved. The peas doubled as ammunition — you could fire them out of a catapult. And the gammon? So salty it should’ve come with a free blood pressure monitor. Out of 19 meals, not a single clean plate. That’s not a coincidence — that’s a cry for help. Castlefields? More like Castle-fails. Avoid it unless you fancy wasting money on a comedy sketch disguised as dinner. A family birthday & the experience was spoilt & disappointing 😞 The evening started well, were friendly, starters were lovely. Main course; lasagne lack depth & was burnt & black on the bottom - it was replaced with a burger which was mediocre due to a rubbery texture. Steak, asked for rare but sadly it was well done, no sign of any pinkness let alone blood. Sadly not eaten & left. Unfortunately, so it seemed, were not appreciative of our returning food & politely explaining that we felt the food was mediocre - we asked for another round of drinks which didn't arrive as were clearly taking a break & vaping on the outside patio for us to see! We decided to cut our losses & leave but even then we had to find someone to ask for the bill & even that was wrong, missing drinks & we'd been charged for the lasagne!
