Brilliant museum lovely and very knowledgeable staff a little model of the 🏰 in the room and a volunteer who will tell you everything. Car parking opposite free no toilets only in the main centre there is a brilliant ramp for disabled access and entrance to the as well Lovely and it’s a cafe, a Green, and a book shop (on the honour system). Worth coming in for a quick look if you are in Hay, but tickets are required to go beyond the entrance hall. Nice place to if you passing by the wales. It’s in the heart of the town. Lots of art and coffee shops around the castle. Not a huge place but it is situated on beautiful location and there are some lovely views. A small gift shop and a nice looking cafe. Parking is chargeable. Castle has few lovely locations and small park inside. The is well worth a visit. We were lucky with the weather so enjoyed a glass of wine on the terrace with stunning views of Hay and the countryside beyond. The atmosphere is really lovely and there's plenty of shopping if you don't want to tour the castle. Restored within the last 3 years, the is certainly worth a visit. It's free to access the clean and fresh cafe with a selection of lunch options available at a variety of price points. Lovely view out over the rear lawn. Step free access ♿ is available at the rear entrance, opposite to main car park. There is also a shop & toilets upstairs. A small fee is charged to access the rest of the castle. Certainly worth a visit. Really enjoyed my here, at £7.50 for entry you can’t go wrong and not only that but that gives you entry for the year so if you are in the area again you can call in! There’s a lovely little video in the cellar that gets projected onto the wall—I’m still trying to work out if the stones projected matched the stones on the wall! There are a couple of exhibits with the obvious one about Richard Booth. There’s also a little dress up area if you want to try a new look! The helmet definitely didn’t fit my head! At the top you’ll get a great view of the town as well. The staff there are all helpful and a big thank you to the lady that let me put my bike helmet behind the desk instead of having to carry it around with me! Definitely worth a little visit—you can always grab a coffee while you’re there at the cafe! Very historic and educational. Lovely friendly staff and a nice place to have a cuppa. There's a Giftshop and an honesty bookshop in the front garden at the bottom of the steps. If you into Hay on Wye from the correct angle the appears as if by magic. It’s beautiful even if you don’t. The bookshop always has new and interesting finds when we visit. The only down side is that our food allergies prevent us from enjoying the cafe inside, but it smells delicious. There’s always people moving through the castle, and the staff are always friendly. The tour is fascinating if you like local history and if you sit in the main area you can hear the locals talking it from when they were children which just adds to the atmosphere. If you have arthritis like me it can be a bit difficult to walk around, it is an old castle, but worth the effort if you can spare a good movement day. The area alone is breathtaking - we’ve been in June and November.
