Called in on our way home from a weekend away for lunch. It was very quiet with only 2 people eating when we arrived. We wanted a roast lunch as it was a Sunday but were told they weren't doing it so we had pie. Cannot fault the - it melted as soon as you touched it with a knife. Lots of HUGE chunks of perfectly cooked beef in lovely gravy. We found out when 2 new people asked for roast dinner that the pub had been flooded the day before due to torrential rain and that's why there was no roast!!! I telephoned in advance to book a table. The day before I was called to confirm. Good start. On arrival there was a proforma track and trace sheet to fill in. This was actually pre-printed and more formal looking than the usual scrap pieces of paper you have to fill in. Another positive. Lounge was well laid out and the bar maid showed us to the table with a pleasant manner and friendly smile. Beef nachos for my friend and I to share. Very tasty and a good size portion. Washed down with a pint of lager. It's going so well can this continue? A very big yes! We both have the pie (£9.95). Wow!! Probably the best pie dish I have ever had. Piping hot, plentiful of tasty chunks, perfect pastry to rounded off by magnificent big chips, not a single one burnt or crispy and perfect vegtables to accompany it all. It took a bit of ergot but I managed to finish it all, my friend couldn't. It was simply brilliant 👏 absolutely flawless meal, cooked by a magician and presented like a work of art. Served, I have to say by a charming lady who looked after us. It's the following day and I'm still raving about this meal. I thought twice about doing this review as I might not get a table next week but feel the staff absolutely deserve the praise. Bravo. And see you again soon. Great local place , food was fab . Don’t let the interior fool you, food was lovely , well my scampi was rhe best I’ve had in a long time If you’re lucky you’ll meet Lucy the pub dog and have a cuddle . Just such great food. Really excellent starters followed by delicious roast beef. Bar and wine selection very good and just the most friendly service. Must come back for that pie. Great to have gluten free options clearly marked on the menu and chips cooked in a GF fryer. Food was tasty. Hope to come back and try the GF fish and chips! The pie that i had was out of this world, with flavours and textures exploding on your pallet like i have never experienced before. My travel partners also commented on their food as beyond their expectations, and with generous portions had by all. My compliments to the chef, supporting staff and the cute bar maid who was very polite and attentive. Superb food, great service!
