It was an excellent the staff were very friendly and helpful, the bonus was the rain went off and the sun came out, it makes everything look much better. I was supposed to get married here but my ex had other plans. Anyways, the staff were fantastic to work with and, when my wedding was canceled, they offered me a two night stay. I’ve never felt happier. If you’re just visiting or getting married, I’d highly recommend!! The Hazell (with Morag) made this so interesting and informative. Each room was lovingly explained - and plenty opportunity to ask questions throughout the tour. Stunning ceilings on the upper floor. Great historical knowledge and a real passion for the house. A fabulous guided tour. The answered our questions well. It was intriguing yo hear the myth, and legends of the castle. The of the 19 Earls was fascinating. Beautiful decor and fabulous plastered ceilings. An extra gem was all the vintage toys in the nursery. Even an original Paddington Bear. A fantastically beautiful with endless grounds stretching as far as the eye can see. Admission only with a tour. Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment. The are still in use and parts of the can also be rented. Our shared lots of interesting details with us and at the end we were treated to coffee and biscuits. Wow. We "owned" one whole end of the castle. Full kitchen, huge dining room, 5 with kitchens and sitting rooms, large fire placed warmed "game" room - and we used all of it. Excellent staff, got piped into our stay, took a tour, used the trails (short ones around and Southern Upland Way which is connected), walked into Lauder for dinner/beer). In the middle (hour at best) of England/Lindisfarne, Traqhuair House, Tweed River, Melrose, Annandale Distillery, and do on. Looking forward to return. Very nice and refreshing change that the weren't roped off as you go around Very informative guides And a lovely tea break included in the price at the end Grounds are nice but not much to explore Overall a nice half day highly recommended Excellent, our was 5*. lasted two hours with drink and biscuits included at the end. information was very interesting. We visited as a group of friends who work in heritage - and we wish our was as beautifully decorated! But ours is a little older! A majestic castle. Thirlestane is an incredible place to visit. The of the place is truly magnificent. The was superb, very knowledgeable and gave a fantastic in depth of the castles. There was so much to see and the decor in the was quite magnificent. Well worth a visit. Superb. The pre-booked which is the only way to see inside the was superb. Our Sue was a delight. Unlike so many stately homes things are not roped off and you can fully immerse yourself in this homely and personal interior, which has interesting artifacts and fine art. The family associated with so many Royals and Nobles is fascinating. Went to see a classic car event at the grounds. Brilliant day lots to see and do , The is very majestic. Unfortunately I had two dogs so unable to go inside the castle. Simply, charming! Breath taking casle with fastening we loved the place high le recommend a also are gide was a lovely lady with lots of interesting facts And the best part was we got tea and coffee at the end of the tour Which truly added to the experience of feeling like a king Thirlestane is an absolute must see! Inside the is visually amazing from the decor to the paintings to the awesomeness of how well maintained this has been kept. It is steeped in history. We had the best ever - Lesley - whose knowledge knew no bounds and patiently answered all my husband's inquisitive questions! A lovely tea and biscuit is provided at the end of the tour. Thank you. Great grounds and lovely full of and in the ownership of the Maitland-Carew family for over 400 years. Book in advance. Great castle/hall.
