Interesting castle, didn't know it was an English one until I got here, has quite a bit to it like, there is also a part where you can walk along the part of the wall that is remaining 😀 Not very accessible to get into but there is ramps, but unfortunately not to the top part of the castle, beautiful of Denbigh though if you manage to get up there, highly reccomended Lil charge to go round the rest of it though but you can go though the original main gate (or where it used to be) and up to the gift shop which is lovely inside Fantastic castle. Easy to walk around with stairs to the walls offering outstanding of the surrounding countryside. You really get a good idea on why it was built hear. Also loved the information boards, though I only found 2 of the 3 stone carvings (you’ll have to go to understand what I’m talking about). Well worth a visit, lots of ruins & walls to climb, while here climb the walls as well get the key from reception. You can spend a few hours exploring the area. Large ruined with lots of green areas got the kids to run riot. Small carpark but with slow EV charging points. It has toilets which were clean but no cafe although cold drinks were available. Part of Cadwr and free entry for members. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours exploring the and grounds. Parking is available nearby, the entrance fee is reasonable at approx £6 per adult, but there maybe discounts available if you have English Heritage passes or similar? Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads at all times, they are also not allowed on the ramp parts. Another great spot to enjoy a family picnic in the sun surrounded by history, while enjoying the immaculately kept grounds over looking the welsh hills and valleys. Staff were very friendly and recommended the wall walk. Excellent and i highly recommend Fantastic to visit, knocks socks off tourist traps like Warwick Castle, the ruins encourage you to use your imagination as to what the history of the would be. Not too busy, few quid entry fee and free parking, the are amazing too! It is a short walk up a hill from the main high street. I took the bus from Rhyl train station, though, which takes a while to get here. The ruins are beautiful, with lovely of the hills and valleys. There's only so much else to do, and I wouldn't make a special trip for it, but it's an excellent place to go if you get a chance. Lovely, atmospheric remains providing fantastic of the surrounding countryside. There's free and, for EH members, free entry. There's also a gift shop at the entrance, selling guides and novelties. The shop also sells soft drinks, biscuits, fudge and ice cream, but, unfortunately, not sandwiches (which made for an interesting, if unhealthy, lunch for us!). The only slightly negative observation I have relates to the info posted around the castle, which was aimed at kids and not really suitable for those whose wife was exploring her De Lacy ancestory. 🤐 Great place to with or without the kids. Our boys were given a word quest/ puzzle to complete which they found fun to do, the clues/ answers were found around the and it's grounds. Some fantastic too, we found it value for money, £19.60 for a family of 4 which I don't mind playing as it keeps these heritage sites open! An interesting and excellent place to visit.
