Nice easy flat on a manmade surface along old railway route. Great views beneath viaducts and bridges. Would be great to see when the water is in full flow. Nive peaceful Enjoyed walking around this area taking in two viaducts as a circular walk, easy walking with some road walking. Enjoyed a takeaway lunch from the bakery in Kirkby Stephen on our return which we ate in the grounds of the church. Hidden gem . Free parking. Well worth the visit. Lovely along the valley. Peaceful, Dramatic and simply stunning...a rare find Absolutely beautiful location. Peaceful. Great for a dip. Donkeys and sheep too. Beautiful quiet area walking the viaduct and along the River. Plenty random seats and access to water once back down on lower level. There is a free car park that holds up to about 10 cars near the viaduct Lovely with good wheelchair access for the main route. Free parking at end of trail with signage inviting donations to go towards maintenance, however, donation box no longer in place. Permissive paths to base of Podgill Viaduct shows it's closed for repair. The sign is old and the access point isn't blocked off so you can get down. The steps are in disrepair and the visibility of the viaduct is obscured due to foliage so probably best sticking to the actual path. With two dogs we welcomed a waste bin for their mess but only noticed the one half way along the route. Perhaps more could be sited or made more visible? We dropped down to Hartley and the signage was pretty good heading back to the old railway line. Information boards are placed along the but it may help having way markers showing you can leave the main route, cross the old bridge and break off to Hartley. Otherwise a nice route. Poetry stones still in place which is great, though not the easiest things to read. Beautiful waterfall on very easy short walk, fabulous viaduct views. Also had a mooch in Kirkby Stephen, where there's plenty of options for food & independent shops.
