I called into the star in for a drink it is a very smart village pub, and there are no bar games it is mainly an up market dining pub. There is an excellent choice of beers, lager and cider including two cask conditioned hand pulled real ales which were in excellent condition when i visited. The pub is not dog friendly, but the lovely brought my drink out to me in the nice beer garden, and there was a bowl of water for the dog. there were a lot of people dining when I arrived. The food looked very nice, I had a look at the menu, and it was very tempting. Excellent beer, nice beer garden i will be back without the dog. Lovely pub with extremely service. Fish&Chips were excellent as were the desserts. After all the hype about the best Yorkshire pud we were a little underwhelmed with the Sunday Roast - nice meat, super vegetables and freshly grated horseradish were lovely but sauce could really be improved We were recommended this place for a place to eat with food, we were not disappointed! The car park is large and easily accessible, I only saw 1 disabled bay near the door but maybe there are more. The were warm and welcoming, from the front door you can just tell this place exudes class, it is very well decorated and aesthetically pleasing on the eye. The initial bar is a large space where you also wait to be seated. We had booked a table in the restaurant area. We were shown through straight away seated at a decent table to the rear of the establishment. There was another what looked like quite a sizeable function just off this followed by more restaurant seating. There is also bar seating which I presume is for the less formal occasions. Service was fast and efficient, the certainly has some options on the food and the drink front. There is no public Wi-Fi provided and I found phone signal on EE to be extremely lacking so don’t expect to be glued to your electronic devices on the interglobe too much! I had the Yorkshire pudding for a starter which was very indeed. I decided to go for the steak and ale pie which came with chips it was the best steak and ale pie I have ever had! The of the meat within was amazing! It was very rich so the fact it was on the smaller side was very welcome, I couldn’t have eaten much more if I’d have wanted to. The was just superb. The wife had the steak which was melt in the mouth good, as she cut the meat it just fell away; amazing quality! For dessert I had the blood orange and white chocolate cheesecake again amazing quality, a true delight to eat. We all finished our meals off with a coffee a few of us having liqueur coffees. We all thought the coffee lacked a bit of which was a shame when measured against the rest of the food and drink which was superb. Based on this experience maybe they should review their coffee supplier/selection, the liqueur did its best to mask it. The thing about the coffee though is you get some delicious honeycomb to go with it, this can also be bought by the bag. This place is an excellent choice for a meal out, on the pricier side of the line but you pay for and The Star Inn certainly delivers in spades on every count but one. Based on this experience we will certainly be back for more, already looking forward to it! I really want to sample their Christmas menu! Totally recommend! We booked as a pair for New Year's Eve, and enjoyed a wonderfully delicious 9 course tasting menu, indeed we couldn't manage the cheese board, which they so kindly packaged up for us to take home. The were well informed, and cheerily polite, never intrusive, and yet attentive. We will definitely be visiting again. Came here to celebrate a family birthday and had a wonderulful meal. Everything was delicious! There were so many interesting options on the it was hard to choose what to have. The food tasted and served with plenty of vegetables. It was all cooked just perfectly. The award winning yorkshire pudding certainly lived up to it's reputation. The service was very efficient and especially as it was a busy Sunday and we were a large table. Would highly recommend a visit! Booking was very easy on their website. The were very and professional. The food was delicious. The dining was immaculate and clean. New perspex screens have been added between tables to follow government guidelines. The portions were fantastic for the price. Overall a very meal and time were had. Absolutely superb, 10/10. Food is fresh and fantastically cooked. Pub is lovely inside and service and are great. Faultless. Not been to the star for over 18 years and it's an amazing place now, totally changed from when I used to come . It is a place from walking through the doors into a well stocked bar ,and the amount of smartly presented and polite is to see . We had a little wait as we came as a large party got a round of drinks in and chatted till we were shown through. The restaurant is well lit and the decor is well picked . Table perfectly set out for our Sunday lunch . Most had all three courses , I had the oxtail in Yorkshire pudding to start , the roast top side for my main (perfectly cooked complements to the chef ) ,loads of extra veg again cooked to my liking, and then I had the pecan pie a lovely finish to the meal . Will be coming back soon with the wife as she has always wanted to try it , and I would recommend to anyone best food around . Lovely staff, very efficient service, food outstanding Lovely gastro pub in Sancton. Food is fab, especially the Yorkshire Lunch which is value. The Sunday lunch is also fab with award winning Yorkshire Puddings. It's gotten a bit pricey of late, especially the drinks, and it's actually more expensive than some other Michelin pubs but still food. Lovely food! The steak and ale pie was really special, and the roast salmon starter was also fabulous. The service was and relaxed, and the atmosphere was calm and welcoming. Lots of interesting options on the menu- we will certainly be back to sample some more of them! Went for lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday, we both chose the Yorkshire and the food was amazing, bursting with flavour, inventive and quality. I am gluten free and most dishes were adaptable to accommodate my needs. All of the are friendly, professional and attentive, special mention to Kay who is a gem. We will be visiting again very soon. Had a lovely lunch today with three friends , due to traffic two of the party were late , but we ordered for them . The particularly our waitress (I didn't get her name ) couldn't have been more understanding even though it meant running late . Food did not disappoint , two of us had the set , two decided on the steak and ale pie . Everyone happy with their choices .Already arranging a return visit .
