Abbaye Notre Dame de Scourmont

Chimay, Belgium Abbey

One of the Best Places To Visits in Rièzes Frequently mentioned in reviews: Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Where the legendary Chimay is produced. Quiet and austere, it cannot be visited unless you join the monks in spiritual retreat (understandably so). If you want to try the beer, the Chimay centre and gift shop is just down the road. Heel rustgevend plek! This is the where the famous Chimay Trappist is brewed. Trappist beers must be brewed in the without exception. Only a few parking places exist, but usually one finds a spot. The area is very green and quiet, ideal for contemplation, combining tamed nature with plain nature. Walkers will find a few paths around the abbey, but the too is publicly accessible. You'll find a huge entrance gate, with clean public bathrooms. Through this gate, one can enter the inside gardens, the entrance is on your left. On your right, you can walk to the cemetary of the abbey. Visiting the area takes 30-45min. Like many abbeys unfortunately, the inhabitants do not focus on tourism or any initiative to better welcome, inform or guide anyone around. I would be prepared to pay for a visit, guidance and tasting, if any such experience existed. This place must be ideal for hard working and contemplating monks, while for visitors, they are completely left alone figuring out it's rather interesting history! Beautiful and quiet monastery. Check out the sequoia in the middle of the abbey, and the on your left when you enter. It is a beautiful monastery located in the countryside near chamay, the reception people were so respectful and helpful. Everything was so clean: the church, the cemetery,... The garden is well maintained and everything looks great. It is a really nice place to visit😀✝️ Tegenvaller, niet veel te zien wg geen toegang tot brouwerij enz. Hele mooie abbaye. Er heerst hier absolute rust. Bezoekers centrum is een stuk verderop, meteen een stuk drukker. Wil je hier eten wel reserveren van te voren A quite well maintained place famous for its exquisite Chimay beer. Don’t expect to visit a brewery, it is only open to see the and central garden which are both wonderful. Take a 10 min walk to the “auberge” to taste the beers! This is a Monastery for the Trappiste Monks. The place it's gorgeous. This is where the Chimay is made. Stoic surrounded by beautiful woods and gardens. Open to the public from 630 to 8pm every day. You can only see the interior gardens, cemetary and the but its worth it. Walking in the woods between the abbaye and the Chimay Experience is a good way to wall off a before getting back in the car. Very well kept and a beautiful garden. No signs of any Chimay brewery on the property. But very close to the little hotel/bar/gift shop where you can get your Chimay loving on This my favourite Belgian Trappist Abbeye. Seemed in tune with the Cistercian strict observance. A spartan church, lovely cemetery and silence. Just some signs to ask to close the door. No cost to enter. Take a walk in the woods across the road to see where to monks go to contemplate God and nature. Then go for lunch at a nearby restaurant (such as the Chimay experience) to taste the local brews. Beautiful quite place as everybody says but... Please, respect the silence when you are there, not only into the but everywhere. There are people who stays for a retreat and when you laught and speak as usual, you don't realize you disturb some that are there for deeper needs. Ask you kids to respect that as well. It is a spiritual place above all. Thank you for them.
