Only a quick visit to try somewhere new. Lots of character, popular on a Friday evening, menu looks good so we'll be returning soon. Some visitors need reminding that the English language comprises more than four letter obscenities - perhaps a swear box could help. Lovely and food amazing xx Busy local pub. The lunchtime specials are reasonable value for money at £9.50, however I think they would be classed a little pricey when they revert to their normal price outside of the lunchtime due to portion size. The were really nice and the pub was a little quirky in an interesting way. It is definitely a family pub where dogs and children are welcome. I'd recommend anyone to go and visit, even if it was to see the lovely mischievous smile from the lady at the bar. Excellent lunch at Dukes! Enormous Steak and Ale pie... fabulous Fish Pie and a very tasty Lasagna left us all too full for pudding! The Dogs Dinner looked amazing and so quirky served in a dig bowl 😁 Fantastic! Short walk from the mooring on the river and worth every step. friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Good beer on tap - including Doom Bar and Abbot Ale. Didn't have the Abbot in case I couldn't get back to boat! Food was fantastic. If a picture paints a thousand words - here are two thousand words 👍👍👍👍👍 Group of 5, turned up with no booking and were fitted in. Food - 4 stars I had the Steak and Abbot Ale pie. The meat was very tender and melt in the mouth, though i am one of those that believe a pie is something fully encased in pastry. This was more akin to Beef and Abbot Ale stew with a piece of pastry served on top. Personally i would have preferred the gravy to have been served in a jug rather than poured over the pastry. Service - 4 stars We asked what beers were available and one member of the party opted for Black Pig, when it was served hecwas unsure as to what type of beer it was. After i tried some, a member of the waiting team was asked if it was a Porter, and was told No. This was incorrect information. also seemed unsure as to whether or not the Chicken 'Pie' contained Bacon, not an issue for us as Leek or Bacon were bith acceptabke. Could be an issue for others. Overall a very enjoyable lunch. Lovely village pub, atmosphere. Lovely out door garden. Definatly worth a visit. Well what a let down, went in for a nice pint of cider which it was not. Returned the two drinks and complained it was flat and warm and I was told it should be like that. I get the flat but not a 20° pint, to be fair I was offered ice cubes, not for me I do not do ice cubes. I suggest that should keep it chilled as LILLEYS advise. No refund, no offer of alternative just an argument so we walked out. Thank you for spoiling our day. Lovely pub with an amazingly diverse menu. The food is lovely and plenty of it, you will certainly not feel hungry when leaving. Our first time here,we had crispy chicken burger in basket. Not good.! Crispy chicken was soggy as were the chips. The salad was basic to say the least. Not value for money. The pub was quite busy for lunchtime so we'll probably give it another chance. The Dukes is a welcoming, rare traditional style, family and dog friendly, food and drink establishment with a large garden and restaurant. We're in the area for a week so after having had their carvery on Sunday we decided to return. Tuesday evening, relatively busy, pub offering a varied menu with additional specials board. Two of us sat out In the garden with the dog. Had a very enjoyable meal of steak pie and seafood platter. Chips were exceptional. Pudding; I had the caramel apple pie with custard special and my partner the Knickerbocker glory (we're old school) over-all very good value for money. The were very polite, efficient and customer focused. Would highly recommend The Chiff Chaff real ale. Great!! We truly loved this place!!! Took my dad for his birthday and it didn't disappoint. The were so and helpful, the food was amazing. The food was fresh, hot and so tasty! We will be going back for sure. Dogs are allowed here as long as they are on a lead which is fine with us. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Lovely little village pub and beer garden, with lots of charm and staff. Pub lunches very good value for money, and children meal was a perfect size for a 8 year old. My absolute favorite pub in the world! Very and locals. They make everyone welcome. The only pub I would feel fine visiting as a single lady. Great Music nights. I hear they have their own Woodfest music festival and have raised thousands for a local hospice! Amazing food. Quirky decor!. Looks small from the outside but don't be deceived. Huge parking area at the back. Amazing seating areas in the garden that goes on forever even has an open fire. Want to keep this absolute gem of a place to myself but it is just as a pub should be and deserves to do well!.. Wanting to move to Woodford so it will be my local! Highly recommended. Roast dinner was uneatable. More fat of pork than meat looked like yesterday's Yorkshire reheated n burned and so much salt in the gravy...... Lovely country pub, barmaids were really lovely and attentive. Food was good. Very friendly. Good food. Good beer. We pre ordered food for a party of 18. Service excellent. Nice atmosphere. Absolutely fabulous, Food is amazing & the prices are great value....especially the 'special board' Strongly recommend. Never had a bad meal Booked a table lunch time Friday 3rd January, we both had steak and ale pie, I had mashed potato, my husband had chips, the meat absolutely melted in your mouth, the pie was very very generous, I struggled to eat it all, hated leaving any, it was so tasty. The made you feel very welcome, table service made it special. I would definitely recommend this lovely country pub, it was busy, recommend booking a table, hope we can make this a regular treat.
