Had the chance of a one day free entrance to a NT property, and this was fairly close to home and although we'd heard of it, had never visited, so although the weather was a bit on the dull side, decided to pay a visit. Glad we did, very friendly man on the entrance caravan who scanned our ticket and explained what there was to see and the best places to get some photo's/videos, also unfortunately, that we couldn't enter the "New Bield" as some of the lintels had been found to be unsafe. We had a up to the building, passing the orchard and the mounds with the moat and managed to get a few reasonable photo's & videos. The path is only hard up to the orchard, a short distance, after that it's all grass which was OK where it had been trimmed, but was sopping wet if you went off it to get a photo etc. After our we visited the toilets about 5 in total, unisex plus a baby changing one, all very good with soap topped up and dryers that worked. Inside the Manor there were rooms detailing the history and a free library area upstairs. Back downstairs is a very large area for the cafe which seemed to do some quite looking food, although we only had a pot of tea each, see the photo's for prices. All in all a very pleasant afternoon. It's even better because you can go inside and get a feeling for what life would have been like many years ago. Great for dogs as you can easily access the Lyveden way trail. That gets you into the manor, lodge, and surrounding grounds. It has so much to offer, with a delicious cafe inside the Manor, alongside a room upstairs where you can relax and have a read. My role as school minibus driver 🚐 and staff assistant took me, an excited reception class and their even more excited teacher to Lyveden new bield to see Father Christmas (not Santa Claus, mind) for a wonderful hour of Christmas stories, Christmas jokes and a little education on traditional Christmas in days gone by. This all took place in the main which had good facilities and very helpful, cheerful staff which helped us enjoy our on the penultimate day before schools out for the festive season 🎄 I'd like to return for a longer to see a little more of this well preserved, interesting place and especially the café 😊 It's an interesting unfinished with a story to it (no spoilers). The trouble is, at the time, there wasn't much to see when you got to the door because there was work being done on the front. So I couldn't take a look on the inside apart from through the windows. It's on a National Trust so anyone who is a member can go along for free. I wasn't so paid to get in. It would only be fair to say that there are other attractions on that same site. It's not just a roofless old in the middle of a field. There is a walkable labyrinth, isn't like a maze because it is supposed to have a single route. So it's technically not a labyrinth because of that. But it's not a maze either. So... Alright. I'll stop with the geeky stuff now. That's another story. Don't ask how I know 😁 Had a great at Lyveden, the welcome was very friendly and informative, we had a around the grounds and lunch and a delicious coffee in the main which has been beautifully looked after. Lots of activities for kids to do and very dog friendly too which suited us. Peaceful. We watched a kite scouting for dinner. We meandered through fruit trees and climbed the hillocks next to the moat around the maze. Great ice-cream I recently spent a weekend visiting Lyveden, and it was an absolutely beautiful and memorable experience. From the moment I arrived at the Manor House, the peaceful surroundings set the tone for a truly tranquil day.
