Nice gastropub in a quaint village. We had the Christmas with 2 or 3 fixed price menu. Great place to hang out with friends. I had the terrine, braised beef, and sticky toffee pudding. A delightful experience. Everything was on point except the terrine. But still a offering for the right price and quality. Slightly long wait for the order to come but it is all cooked fresh and was superb. Need to book on a Sunday lunchtime. Overall, we had a really experience here. We had a party of 16 and the was excellent, especially for a fairly busy Saturday night. Drinks were great and well made. was very friendly and accommodating. However, the food is what dropped the score to what would have been 5 stars down to a respectable 4. I had a prawn tempura appetizer and a steak. The prawns were nothing special, but were good. The steak was good, but had some burnt crispy things on it and I couldn't identify what they were. Very small portion of chips(fries) came with it. Two in our party had the fish and chips and were woefully underwhelmed. Both said the fish and batter was flavorless. One only consumed about half and was just frustrated by the lack of flavor. I'm not sure how the others in our party fared with their meals. Splitting the bill was a mess too. The last person to pay, had to cover what was left. We like the place and I'm sure we'll be back, but will try some other meals next time. Other positives...the car park is huge and there is lots of seating if you include the outdoor seating area. Lovely location. Great menu. Brilliant Chef. Well cooked, presented & Innovative dishes...visually exciting & tastes wonderful. Highly recommend a visit. Guarantee you will return. Booking necessary at lunch times and/on weekend and for dinner...its that good!!! This is the second time of visiting this pub, the first time it was fantastic, the second not so fantastic, in fact very disappointed. I know that places struggle to cater when it comes to Mothers Day etc…, I had higher hopes for this place from experience, but No, the same as everywhere else, a limited, drab menu. The food was ok, I could do better at home myself, and I’m no chef. Sorry guys, like everywhere else avoid for a special mass occasion. Not even the front of house could turn this one around, as as they are. But to end on a positive, what a village! Waiting seemed totally uninterested in serving anyone. Waited over an hour for dinner, identical dishes had no mash or vegetables on, eventually it turned up separately in dishes. Asked for the sweet menu, never came. In the end we left very disappointed. This was a birthday dinner for my parents 80th. We won't be back. We utilised their outdoor tent for a large gathering this weekend and enjoyed their Sunday lunches! Absolutely perfect for our group especially with eight kids, it kept the rest of the pub happy as we were in our own space haha! Log burners and attentive service, the roasts were delicious and very generous kids portions too. Would highly recommend - is also one of the only pubs I know of that has a decent play area too which is always a bonus with families who still want to enjoy a pub and have kids with them!! Thanks so much to Lesley and the team!! Fantastic food options with a ‘specials’ offering. Warm, friendly bar - always with a smile! Relaxed welcoming atmosphere- particularly weekends! Traditional food options to cater for various tastes including GF . Great atmosphere! Booked for my friends birthday. We had a table of 8. All of us really enjoyed the food no bad comments. I took a birthday cake in and kindly bought it out with the candles light which was lovely. I will definitely be going there again soon Group of us had an evening meal here. Lovely who were all very attentive and polite. Slightly miscommunication over desserts so they gave them FOC which was a nice touch. The food was great- will be back Lovely food. At the higher end of pub grub. We have great starters of whitebait, chorizo and pork belly which were all excellent. Followed by calves liver and bacon and great burgers for the children. value, great and a lovely welcoming atmosphere in the pub. We had booked in the restaurant which would have been a hit too quiet so moved to a friendly place in the main pub. I would only ask for a higher end offering on wines by the glass as I struggled a bit on that but went for the house recommendation which was fine. Definitely going again and bringing more people next time. Setting and decor is lovely but the place is let down by the food and the service. Poor quality of food Starter - pate no better than being scoped out of a tub and covered with 4 pieces of toast no additional condiments. Could have got nicer from a local supermarket. Main - Beef bourguignon was served with mash that could have been packet mash potatoes with half a block of butter thrown in and the beef itself pretty tasteless. Dessert - orange and cinnamon tart with ice cream tasted bland. Bar were great and polite. Serving lacked. Extreme thanks go out to Nathan, Ian and all the team at the Montague Arms for giving us the best family get together for my wife’s birthday. Twenty seven of us, food was fabulous and hot, drinks were a plenty and the was absolutely exceptional. Can’t thank you all enough and we will be back again for our next big family get together. Four of us met for lunch in the restaurant. Table booked for 12.15. Lovely meet and greet, made us feel very welcome. Pre-lunch drinks gave us time to review and the “specials” board. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. All very relaxed with the occasional non intrusive enquiry of any further assistance. Desserts and coffees were offered and taken and we left the restaurant at 14.40 having enjoyed the Montagu Arms hospitality. Will definitely go again and would recommend to friends and family. 💯 happy - we held a family reunion in the restaurant area for 32 including only 18 adults and 5 aged 2 and under! Lesley and her team were truly brilliant with all the mayhem, the meal was delicious and everyone enjoyed the occasion immensely. We thoroughly recommend. Lovely pub and very attentive staff. I had lasagna which I found was very dry no cheese sauce , if I hadn’t have been hungry I would have left it. My husband had goat cheese tart which he said was nice and steak to follow which was acceptable Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
