Beautiful beach and walk area and a perfect place to swim, the fact that it is a sea Lough means that the water is warmer than swimming in the open ocean. You can walk a good distance along the footpath which spread's out the visitors so there was always a quiet place to find. The walkway is good and I thought it would suit wheelchair users with a large carpark at the beginning. Enjoyed my visit here. Coffee shop closes early Pretty place to come if you have time for a walk (or run) to explore the path where there are things of note. Not much to see from the parking lot other than a quick view, so just depends on tour time. Absolutely worth a stop if you have some to spare. While the Fort itself is closed and inaccessible to the public, it is situated in a beautiful area of natural beauty and there is also a man-made jetty and old boathouse. The views of Lough Swilly are splendid across to Portsalon or down the Lough towards Inch Island. There is a small car park and the RNLI station is also nearby which should not be obstructed. ( UFO Hotspot )Great place for scenic walks, water sports and fishing.also great place for camping or picnics, plus a beautiful, lesser known secluded beach about 150 yards from the point. a truly historic area with places to visit including farther heagerty rock and many wild stories from past history to be learned. Beautiful area, but inside ruined fort is closed off, and looks in disrepair. Trash thrown inside past the gate, and thorny briar plants over growing around the outside of the fort. Its apparent that kids or deliquents are somehow climbing inside and tossing trash around. My family stopped here on our roadtrip across Ireland, hoping to learn more about this historic landmark and admire it, but its unfortunate that its locked up (perhaps because of the trash?) and not maintained. I’d still recommend driving by if you need fresh air! The beach beside it is beautiful, and the view is awesome. Looks like there’s a walking trail and a cafe nearby. Wish we could have explored the fort though! I hope someone cleans it up. May 2025, two young men drown near here while swimming. Beautiful area. Great place for weekend dips and walks, it has a carpark and a historic fort. The views are great. Beautiful spot with a beautiful coffee spot just on the hill behind. Coffee is amazing Lovely part of Ireland The fort is nothing much to see as it is always locked. However, there is a lovely coastal walk nearby with amazing scenery. The information signage was also an interesting read.
