That's a really interesting with evidence of use from the Neolithic times, then rebuilt and used by the Vikings in the tenth century and renovated in the nineteenth century. Different floors to look around and a passage in the thickness of the wall to hide and defend themselves. Really interesting historical site. Best stone in Ireland! (As far as I know!) We did 21 counties and almost 5k km over 2 trips and this is still a standout. Make sure to go on a clear day to enjoy the view! The wind is intense in Donegal and you certainly will feel it here. Ear protection helped me a lot, not from cold but from wind pain. Sept 12, 2024. The is beautiful and on a clear day the views are charming because it sits on top of a hill. There is a car park and a wheelchair accessible ramp from the car park to the fort. The only problem is that in the 1800s it was way over-restored so it lost part of the charm of other stone forts like it. Down a path signed by an arrow there is a holy well devoted to St. Patrick, but it's nothing special (it's not Z shaped like other Celtic holy wells) so skip it and spare yourself a bit of mud. Stunning views , interesting design , definitely worth seeing and its free with plenty of parking Stunning 360 degree views. You can explore everywhere on your own. Can be very windy and wet on the wrong day but if you're close by make the drive he won't regret it. The is spectacular! The ring is in impressive condition and it was fun that you could easily climb to the top. Worth a quick trip on a good weather day. Went in early Nov, off peak season on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. We had it almost to ourselves and there was no cost. No services available. This is a must visit if you are in the area. The panoramic from this place even on a particularly not clear day is stunning. The history, the views, the feeling, everything is extraordinary about being here. This is a very simple Ring with thick stone high walls. It is a heavy duty structure made some time ago for defence. It would’ve taken a lot of manpower and effort to make this Fort. It is at the top of a hill the tallest around, with a 360° all around. Anyone could clearly see if there was an enemy force coming to attack. I think a weak point would be there was no water supply. I believe parts have been rebuild. It is worthy of a visit if not to see the Fort, but to enjoy the fantastic view. It’s free to see. Interesting piece of History, the offers beautiful views of the surrounding area. Parking is easy. Definitely worth a visit Gorgeous spot steeped in history. Very cool to walk around the interior stone walls Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
