We came here because of the beautiful photos we saw online of the and mountain. There’s a big parking place but with lots of holes, so be careful. You pay 6 euros to go in, and you have to pay by credit card (contactless works ok). Then, you have to walk a little to reach the mountain passed the caravan parking lot. You then walk a little bit more until you reach the lake. It’s ok, but what drove us crazy was that although it’s not written anywhere that facilities are closed, the toilets were locked and the café was also closed. So, after you have driven a while to reach the prison, you have to plan your toilet needs and go elsewhere… :( Come if it is on your way, otherwise, it’s not worth the detour especially if you are only staying for a few days in Estonia. Impressive place. Must climb up the hill. Fantastic views. We rented a catamaran for 20 euros per hour. The car can also be parked closer to the lake. I can't believe I didn't bring my good camera. What a mesmerizing and beautiful place. Highly recommend a here. Plan for a day and enjoy the sports and hike to the top. Beautiful beach with lots of things for kids to do, including SUP boards, a stunt track and pedal boats. There are also changing rooms and toilets. You could come to the beach with your dog. I don't know if dogs would have been allowed to swim, so we didn't. We stayed in the caravan area. There were also cottages in the area. Top recommendations to this place. A historically enchanting place where you can swim in a great around sunken buildings. You can also climb the mountain and see the views that are simply breathtaking. The view is like in space. There are lifeguards, a cafe, you can rent a paddle board, there are outdoor toilets, a changing room. I would advise you to have shoes. Fantastic place, we will definitely be back. The place is pet friendly. Pretty cool stop which was unexpected, found out about it while looking at the Google maps icon on the region... at the entrance (ticket booth) there is a woman's WC, but don't use it, there is a much nicer and bigger WC place just 25 m directly to the right. Too bad the lady at the entrance did not mention it even though I asked about toilets. however, nice of both the and the prison. Both the frozen and snowy moments were absolutely gorgeous! Even if the site is open only on appointment for groups to visit, you can walk around the and find the right spot to sneak in 😉. I even saw people fishing on the frozen lake. I recommend spending easily a day in this area. Tracking is amazing along the lake! We spent a really fun half day here. The is beautiful and possible to swim in (though is chilly). The mountain is very easy to climb. Wonderful cafe with terrace to relax on. The is very interesting to explore (with an audioguide). Great for children all around! Ticket with entrance to the and old jail was 13€. I found both of them very beautiful and interesting. There were several families with children in the quarry, and you can also rent sup boards, boats or go to the park thingy. There’s also a small bar! A must-visit hidden gem in Estonia! Rummu is an incredibly scenic spot where nature and history blend beautifully. The crystal-clear blue water, the submerged ruins, and the surrounding limestone hill create a surreal atmosphere. Perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, or just relaxing with a view. There are also adventure activities. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Estonia! It's become very commercial but still the most amazing place for a summer swum. Stayed in a tent, watched Romula ja Juliet (amazing and hilarious and devastating) and got home feeling like I had been far away. One of the best experiences I had during my two-week holiday in the Baltic countries! I didn't know what to expect from Rummu but I can say, I recommend it 10/10! 👌🏻 We started our from the prison: We listened to the audioguide which gave us an insight into the story of this place. It is huge and you could spend hours and hours wandering among the old buildings. It looks like an urbex experience! Then we went on to the quarry. Here you can do a lot of different activities: swimming, going with sup, hiking on the little hill and enjoying a unique scenery! Tip: the bar is quite pricey but the food is really good! You could easily spend a whole day here! Nice place to visit, but definitely way too expensive for just simple site seeing. I have traveled a good part of the world and this was really the first please - I found it ridiculously expensive (7€) per person for site seeing of ~ 20 minutes. Even Suiss where you are paying a lot for everything - are not that greedy! Perfect place for a day trip. It’s great for swimming, hiking, paddleboarding. The mix of nature and history (prison) makes it a special place. If you’re looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation, Rummu is definitely worth a visit! A somewhat unusual tourist place where they made use of an old that was operational during the Soviet era as a “novelty” place of interest. Within the same compound, you can also the turned for some activities for families with kids. Seen many happy young faces…. Normal ticket for adult: €8 Senior discount: €4 Prison visit: €2 The only decent toilet is at the quarry’s cafe. The rest are mobile toilets. Rummu is one of the most unique places I’ve ever visited. The combination of natural beauty and haunting history makes it truly unforgettable. The turquoise is incredibly clear, and the submerged buildings give it an almost surreal, post-apocalyptic feel—like a scene from a movie. We spent hours exploring the area, swimming, and taking photos. If you’re into urban exploration, history, or just want to experience something completely different, Rummu is the perfect destination. Make sure to climb the nearby ash hill for panoramic views—it’s worth the short hike. Highly recommend visiting during sunny weather and bringing shoes if you plan to swim. Whether you’re an adventurer, a photographer, or a history enthusiast, Rummu is a must-visit gem in Estonia.
