During summer on hot days gets very busy as people swimming, sunbathing and also camping here. Lovely place to go for a dip or as a put in for the kayaks. Shallow with stones for the first few metres, warm shallow water with a sandy bottom for another while making it popular for families and kids playing.. and then a drop as it gets deeper farther out into the main body of the lake. Lots of algae in the hot weather which can be smelly and off putting. There are bins for whatever litter people bring though, and sometimes the icecream man rocks up which is a winner! No public toilets which is a shame considering the popularity. Lovely place, there is a kids play and a forest walk. Must visit. Well done bbq stations. Facilities are near .. playground for kids. No one around The scenery is lovely, and there is a play for little children. Small beach with sand and round stones. Great for paddling. Ideal for young families for picnics. Not much there for teenagers. Very nice place to spend a few hours outdoors with kids! The views!!!!! Absolutely stunning!!! We were in the for 3 days and made a point of returning to this park!! Beautiful woods for walking. Lovely mix of hardwoods & conifers. Lots of wildlife also. I've seen red squirrels, pine martins, fox's, badgers, hedgehogs, deer. I've also seen the white tailed sea eagle gliding through the woods. It's just a pity Coillte don't maintain the paths through the woods. You have to climb over or stoop under trees that have fallen over the walking path. Also the access road to the car park is full of pot holes. But apart from all that it's well worth a visit. It has interest all year round. Probably the best time of year is late spring when the blue bells are in full bloom.
