I wanted to have an experience at a local pub, so I looked at reviews for what was in my lodging area. Larkins seemed favorable enough for lunch and we arrived about 13:00. Since this is the off-season we had no problems getting seated. The food was really nice with perfect golden fried fish and a delicious chicken sandwich that we shared. Both entrées came with chips, fish also came with small ramekins of mushy peas and coleslaw. I elected no mayo and asked for the relish on the side. I think the burger bun would have turned mushy leaving as described on the menu. For drinks, we both had Irish coffee with a dollop of whipping cream and dusting of chocolate. We got seated at a pub style table that was a high boy style. There is also seating near the wood burning stoves where one could enjoy a lazy day with a Guinnes in hand! All the were super and genuine. Lovely location, staff, nice atmosphere and decent food. It's also dog Check out Grand Walking Tours on youtube Lovely pints . Good Whiskey. Good food staff. Brilliant location . Defo worth a vist. We stayed in Motorhome several days and we poped in nearly every night for pints or food While the food was great the apple crumble, drinks, and other dishes tasting lovely, the overall experience was marred by the service. One of the servers was notably rude; when I asked for extra custard (essential for my apple crumble), her dismissive response of “it’s at the side” made it clear she wasn’t willing to help. I had to ask for a second time to got the proper serving, which was frustrating enough on its own. Additionally, the repeated, almost intrusive, questioning about whether we wanted to order made us feel singled out, our table. We were waiting for the rest of our group to come which were delayed cause the child was playing on swings. We had planned to go for dinner but online it said that the restaurant was closed, which we settled for another venue in Killoloe. It’s only by chance we said we go out and see is it open and have the dessert there. Overall, the negative service completely overshadowed the good food. I was last there over Christmas and it was a totally different experience and vibe. Really nice old traditional Irish pub, staff. Small menu but we enjoyed Chicken burger and chowder. Lovely setting and large pub and beer garden by the water although you can see it garden wall but it's only a short walk away. Major plus they are dog friendly. We would visit if in the area again Had a lovely lunch in the garden area last week .. really nice food, service... Will make a point of going again on my next trip. Highly recommended I feel the need of writing this review because what happened yesterday was too much. This was the third time in our lives we went lo Larkins (from Limerick). I remember the first time we went food was incredible at a decent price. The second time we already noticed an increase in the price but this third time we have felt ripped off. We were 5 adults and we paid 180 euros for 3 burgers, a chowder, a chicken curry, 1 starter (in total, not per person), 3 glasses of wine and 4 coffees, no desserts. Food felt like normal pub food but at a price of an expensive posh restaurant. A complete nonsense. Service was also extremely slow. We paid 14 euros for a starter that had a ridiculous size and wasn't anything special, very average. I wonder why they are taking advantage of people like this, what's the need? Not to mention that they have also added to their payment process the cheeky question that makes you pick a tip % by pressing a botton in front of the staff. My partner felt intimidated and added a 10% tip, almost 20 euros more to an already inflated bill, that we regret giving, of course. Toilets had a strong smell of urine too. I give them 2 stars because the food wasn't bad (as I said average) and they have a very nice outdoors area. Unfortunately, we won't be going back. After being here several times for dinner we decided to hold a family christening here. Maura and her team were so helpful and thorough in helping us organise everything. They catered to children of all ages as well as dietary requests of some of our guests. They offered us our own room so the children would have space to play. We also wanted to decorate the space ourselves so were able to set up the evening beforehand. The food was delicious and it worked out very good value for the quality of food and service we had. The fire was lit and it was very welcoming. The team worked really hard to ensure we were happy. It was a wonderful day with many thanks to the efforts of the staff.
