Llyn Brianne

Up until last year this had been one of my favourite spots in mid Wales, beautiful scenery around the reservoir, and a stunning location. Unfortunately as a result of mass deforestation, and damage caused by strong winds, it is now far less scenic. I appreciate that deforestation is necessary, but when trees are felled along the road around the reservoir, and clear up seems scant at best, the place loses part of its attraction. There are parts that still are very scenic, but overall it is certainly less so now than in 2024. For anyone looking to travel here, I would always recommend the road in from the Tregaron end, which brings you in at the top end of Llyn Brianne, as this is a very scenic route. The road around the reservoir is fairly well maintained (single track with passing places), look out for the sheep! Hopefully replanting will take place, and the damage tidy up will continue, and then perhaps it will again be a place more impressive than in its current state. Beautiful location, very picturesque, very quiet when we were there. Long walks around the reservoir. Definitely go back to explore. A great drive, and amazing views when you get there. Great location off the beaten track in fabulous countryside. Very scenic drive from Llandovery, the dam and reservoir are spectacular, and the Towy Bridge Inn is not far away for a pint and a meal. When the sign at the turn off reads 'Mountain Road' it means it. Some stunning views and felt very remote - about 25 - 30 miles of single track if heading to Llandovery. Don't rely on signage and stick with map. Beautiful, peaceful, not many cars or houses and definitely no signal for miles. Loved it. Beautiful place. We only managed to visit a small bit, it's huge! But the part we did see is magnificent. The only downside (hence four stars) is that it is in 'managed forest' which meant that there were some areas that had been brutally stripped of trees for wood. It leaves such an ugly tree graveyard behind. But there are plenty of places where this hasn't yet happened. Apart from that, glorious views, pretty isolated so very peaceful and the dogs loved it. OMG. What a fabulous place to visit. Views are spectacular . Was surprised but happy to see a berger van there.
