It deserves more than 5 stars! Fantastic atmosphere, very beautiful little pub. We just passed after doing Pen y Fan, and we are glad we stopped there. The is super polite and very friendly. The food is amazing. And the straberry crumble is a must!!!! Definitely will be a place to stop next time. Portion sizes were big and food was delicious, edible ketchup was provided on request. Prices were really good considering the size of the meal and all food seemed to be sourced locally! Vibes were as Jasmine and Kayleigh were very friendly and attentive! This is a really family run business and worth popping in for a meal or drink. PS Please consider putting arm chairs next to the fireplace, I was so full but had nowhere to recover after dinner. ☺️ The Sunday roast in this place is beyond stunning. It's hot, fresh and generous on portions. The desert is on another level too! The are amazing, super friendly and chatty. I'd recommend this pub to anyone. Well worth the short drive up from Merthyr, best food around by a country mile. We visited yesterday, Easter Sunday, and it was very busy but service was not effected. Brilliant and friendly welcome, love the tartan trousers!! The food was lovely and VERY reasonable which is very welcome as a family of 5. I loved that there was an alternative menu available for those that didn't want a roast dinner. My children demolished their dinners and loved them! Pudding was yummy too. I had roast beef which was delicious. My husband had the lasagne and chips- both were very very nice. Will definitely be back and recommending our holiday let guests to visit too. Thank you very much We turned up unannounced as a party of 12 on a glorious bank holiday weekend. Despite being very busy they were able to fit us in and serve us all quickly. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Sunday roast was excellent. All the were friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend! I’d never visited before but will definitely be going back. Went for an evening meal. Booked a table for 2 on a Thursday evening less than 48hrs in advance. I would recommend booking for food, it seemed most of the tables were full that evening and the bar still had groups on tables past 9pm. There was limited parking and found many others were parked kerbside up the adjacent estate which was unfortunate, but left with no other option we did the same. The bar has a decent spread on tap but just a couple of cask ales. I had their offering of a golden ale, which had good flavour, tartness and not too sweet. The were very welcoming and got us sat down in their separate dining area. The bar area feels like a proper pub - i think the building will be quite old with original timber decoration, which helps - and the dining area also is comfortably pub-like. The table service from the was great and attentive throughout the evening. The lighting inside was brighter than your average dimly-lit pub, but not so bright that it was off-putting. Although I think it would benefit from not being as bright as it was. They have a fish tank as you walk into the dining area with little tropical fish, which was fun and relaxing. The water in the tank was starting to turn a bit green, not sure if that’s normal or if it needed changing, I’m not an expert! Large windows in the dining area offer “front row seats” with panoramic views out to the adjacent, dramatic landscape of the Pen-y-Fan mountain. Good enough to see even sat at the back of the room. The food menu looked great and I found vegan/ vegetarian options. They had a vegetable lasagne that could be made vegan which I chose. They switched out the cheese with a vegan cheese. My colleague chose (one of the) steaks. The prices looked very affordable. The portions were a good size and very well-presented. The side accompaniments to my lasagne complemented the meal very well. I also ordered the soup of the day which was tomato (vegan). It tasted very refreshing and tomatoey, and homemade. The lasagne was also excellent. My colleague’s steak came medium rare as requested, it looked good. There was a family celebrating someone’s birthday and brought out candles in dessert and did a bit. They seemed to be locals as they were very comfortable there.
