Highly recommend a visit. The museum had lots of interesting facts to read and learn about the area of years gone bye. we loved the little cottages. Spent a good 5 hours here, including coffee at a nearby coffee shop. The entrance ticket gives you a discount in the coffee shops. The museums was really well kept, were helpful and friendly and the entrance price is very good value. Had a lovely day but be aware of the two pigs.. They are always hungry and know the sound of you opening the bag of food that's available to feed them. 😄. We really enjoyed the Ryedale Folk Museum. The was super friendly, and the open air set up offers an excellent history lesson on what life was like in years past. There are several structures from various periods, and placards in each explain how they are built and what life was like living in that period. One of the gems is an daylight photography studio that is listed as the first of its kind. One can take their own Edwardian photograph inside. In addition to a small village, homes from different periods, and farm animals on the grounds, there is a large building in the back that is an agricultural museum with a myriad of holdings inside. From churning butter to a variety of tea cups (my favorite was the moustache cup), one could spend quite a bit of learning about farming life. This is a real gem worth seeking out. Plus, our ticket gave us 10% off something to eat and the nearby cafe. Lovely little museum. Visited for the first and was pleasantly surprised at what was here. Plenty of different periods to and see. Nice little outside games along the way to play as a family. Welcoming staff. Even had a free homecooked jam tart. Lovely to see a little apple orchard. A really nice few hours out. They had a separate trail of counting hob like gnomes, which kept kids happy. Not too cheap but you can return (although u likely we will in the year as far away). Buildings are informative and lots to see. Great on a sunny day you are in and out of buildings. Nice effort with kids games, ride ons and small play zones. We enjoyed feeding the pigs and chickens for a small fee too. No cafe on site but of course you can leave and go to the ones in the and return. Its layout takes you up and away from the entrance though so we finished our loop first. Shop on entry and exit was nice. Not much linked to the history of the place. First for many years. Dog friendly inside and out, £10 gets you an annual pass. Fascinating place to in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors, dedicated and volunteers have created a great resource for the history of the area, buildings saved, and faithfully rebuilt on site, information, history, industrial heritage, learn how the normal person once lived. Plus great pubs/cafes next door. Ideal base for exploring the moors and coast A real step back in time, very friendly and informative willing to answer any questions you have..The lady in the old corner shop (nothing for sale) was very helpful and showed us all of the items from the past.. Dog friendly. Price of entrance lasts 12 months so good value if you're planning going back. Lovely place. Lots to see. We visited in march but I'm sure it will be even more spectacular in spring/summer when the animals are back and the crops and flowers are growing. Well worth a visit. Fascinating collection of reconstructed houses and workplaces typical of the local area. Other exhibits include farming machinery and livestock. Wonderful place…like the tardis…from the outside it looked just a barn…but it’s full of reconstructed houses including a Tudor dwelling and round house…as well as a top notch exhibition on history of food production. Lots of interesting speakers and events so worth looking on web to tie in a visit. Lovely as well and great shop. Thank you A great little discovery. We stopped here in the way home from a weekend away. Pay once and have entry for a year. Some great buildings to explore. Some amazing olden days cottages showing how people would have lived. Much bigger than first impression, well worth the entrance fee We loved this museum. Much bigger than we thought once we entered through the shop. Plenty to see and explore. Great for all ages. Little hamlet /village kept as traditional as the day it was built. Buildings were stocked with plenty of items from that and how those people lived back then. Lots of information board on your way round. Centred in a beautiful small village. A fantastic place to explore! Loads of historic houses to wander through, with plenty of little details to bring the past to life. Very welcoming for children – our 5-year-old loved the 'Hob' hunt (searching for little gnome-like dolls in the houses) and the kids’ games. Great value too, with the very reasonable entry price giving you unlimited visits for a year. Set in a beautiful that’s lovely for a wander afterwards.
