There's a barefoot trail on the way up to the village and the two young chaps dressed up in full celt costumes really brought history to for us. Cafe looked nice although we didn't partake. Also, for you EV drivers there's even a couple of charge points in the car park Loved it! A terrific few hours with my dog starting with a great brunch sitting outside the riverside cafe. The flat white coffee was so I got a second one, and the breakfast bagel was superb - I’d go back just for that, irrespective of the village! Lovely service by kind and friendly staff, as well. I bought a ticket (adults £8.50) from the nice lady at the desk, and wandered up through the forest trail using the map to the Iron Age village which is where the magic is. You MUST take advantage of the knowledgable staff there in costume - ask them lots of questions about the lifestyle of the villagers back then and they’ll amaze you with what they know. Go inside each roundhouse with the staff and ask them to tell you what’s in there. I went Sunday and it was 2 young men that really brought the place to for the tourists. I know they also do activity days there so I’m going to look out for those and go if I can to try my hand at weaving and whatever else. A wonderful find for an interesting, healthy, wholesome, and affordable day out. Five stars. I felt it had gone past its best,herb beds had more weeds than herbs, I felt the signs were poor , I thought the round houses themselves were but there was very little else for me , i think it is maybe quite for young children Amazing place to learn and observe the inhabitants of 3000 years old local village. The place takes around an hour to walk it quick but if you are interested in details you can spend there hours as the houses have lots of tiny details which will easily hide from the eyes of people in rush. There is a guide on the house meadow who seems to be very genuinely happy to share her knowledge about the people who lived in here. The entry ticket for adult is 8,5£. Unfortunately they don't have many choices for magnets but they do have lots of merch for people interested. We arrived with only an hour and a half before closing. The signage around the site was not good, so confusing for a visitor. The reconstructed mini village fort was the star of the show. Some suitably dressed up folk gave info of what was there which was as they also answered questions. Some items where dismantled with no info of what it was! Nice cafe with coffee. £8.50 ea to get in. Really fun place to visit. Took the dog and baby in a sling carrier. It would’ve been a bit bumpy for the pushchair but I saw others managed pretty well. Really informative guide taught us a lot about Iron Age life. We saw lots of artefacts and all the different buildings show new elements of at the settlement. Enjoyed our visit, though the long wait for food from the cafe, delayed our visit and we missed the start of one of the guide's talks. Nonetheless, the food was delicious and we managed to catch up on knowledgeable aspects of Iron Age - the construction of the houses, the food and cooking, and community. The site itself isn't so large but the dedication to the project is clear to see. We really enjoyed exploring the site and returned later in the week for the Lammas/Burning of the Wicker Man evening event. That was very special, with music and fire-eating.
