Nice cafe, great quality food and cakes, for a reasonable price, with friendly service. A little bit cramped inside, but the outside tables are good if it's warm enough. The wider complex has some interesting shops, and a nice wetland area which you can walk around. We enjoyed coffee and cake at this fantastic establishment. While the cakes were delicious, we unfortunately discovered a small piece of hair in the cheesecake. Upon informing the staff, they promptly apologized for the issue and replaced the cheesecake with a fresh one. The cafe's atmosphere is exceptional, and I highly recommend this venue. Been a few times and it's got very busy very quickly since it opened so definitely book ahead! It was just me and the dog today so they squeezed me in without a booking. Picked the cheese scone this time with the chilli jam which was scrummy...a slice of cheese with it would have been even better (hint hint). Ordered a doggy sausage and 2 came... one very happy pooch! Nice little leg stretcher around the lake nearby finished off the visit nicely. We just went in for snacks and drinks. We were quickly guided to our window table. The view of the garden and a bit of winter sun was very picturesque. I'm dairy intolerant so I ended up getting black coffee and the wedges with roast garlic and thyme. There were pieces of caramelised garlic with a lovely mild taste. The combination of hot garlic, thyme, salty wedges and cold mayonnaise was really good on a winter's day. My partner got tea and a roasted vegetable frittata and salad. The frittata was a good size and filling. Many of the options I fancied contained butter and milk which is a sign of quality. The waitress helpfully got out the allergy file, but I just chose the obvious option. In cheaper cafés I can eat more things, but I was happy with the wedges. My partner's tea came in a pot with an interestingly long tea bag. This added a bit extra to the experience. Everyone must have a short conversation about their tea bag on the first visit. We paid for the food with a gift voucher and had some change, so my partner added a pound to it and got a fantastic cake to take away. I wish I had taken a photograph of the cake in it's box, because it looked like something from a food magazine. We enjoyed the trip out into the countryside and food. Lovely food, good selection,managed ham/cheese n pickle sandwich then warm mince pie. A pot of tea and was full up Had to get boxes for cheese scone and lemon cake, hopefully can eat them for supper. Only problem was size of table, too small for all the bits. Pleasant staff, helpful, served quite quickly considering sandwiches are made to order Visited today after many visits to all Running Fox venues over the years. How sad to say the service was poor and one particular fella is not made for front of house hospitality! We were spoken to very abruptly when entering the cafe so that put me off. I was prepared to just think this was his off day. Then we ordered 3 meals only 2 came, had to ask for 3rd which came when others were finished. When it did arrive the pie was cremated the tattie scones so tough I couldn't cut them. Very disappointing. One server did offer a cake for free not sure if this happened? Then when paying the same abrupt fella stated he'd given us extra time on the table for their mistake!! If he hadn't I'd have been eating in the carpark perhaps? Anyway hopefully he gets some karma and adjusts his manner soon. The soup sarny scones were gorgeous as usual so not all bad.
