Wallington Hall is one of the best National Trust days out in Northumberland. The itself is full of character, with rooms, quirky collections, and striking murals that tell the history of the North East. The gardens are a real highlight — the is stunning and peaceful, while the wider estate has riverside walks, ponds, and woodland trails that feel endless. It’s fantastic for families too, with several play areas, adventure trails, and plenty of space for kids to run wild. The café and shop are both worth stopping by, and facilities are good. The estate is big, so wear decent shoes — the to the takes a while but is worth it. Some paths can be tricky if wet, but most are well kept. A super day out! Popular National Trust and Gardens. Splendid to look around and every hour you can get a lecture in the main hall about the art work. Cafe and shop on site, with a smaller refreshments hut in the wall garden. You can take a circular around the grounds (takes about an hour). Very big carpark. Wallington has some walks around several lakes/ponds with a a couple of play areas and several small ice cream kiosks as well as amaan coffee shop. Most of the smaller kiosks weren't open when we visited, but a sign says they are open during school holidays. We didn't go into the or on the cycle routes, but there are signs for two short family cycle routes. A good stop off on the way up to Edinburgh. This place is absolutely beautiful. The only thing I would say is there are not many bins around for dog waste /general waste ! Also, we queued for 40 mins to get a drink in the cafe, it's just not well organised and they can't keep up with demand on a weekend. It's also VERY expensive to have a drink/food. We had two coffees and a bottle of water and it was £13. Absolutely loved it here, such a home. Doll's house's was a big hit with my twin daughter 💖 the bagpipes was such a touch. To hear them playing. Every room was elegant. Grounds are huge. Easter holidays there was plenty to do. Easter hunt was fun for my twins. The food at the restaurant was delicious 😋 the was very too. The gardens and village green are exceptional, as are the sculptures and quirky cultural landscaping along the way. Even the old doors are gorgeous! The are so friendly. It's as in winter as it is I'm summer This is our second to Wallington Hall and Estate (previously here 6 or 7 years ago). Both times we visited on a busy (but not overcrowded) weekend. Understandably a popular place for families; Wallington has plenty of space for kids to play and several kids-oriented features in the woods. We thoroughly enjoy the walks through Wallington woods and around ponds, complete with interesting art along the way (carved owl, carved log, etc.). Another delight is the garden, which is quite substantial and well maintained with numerous types of plants in varied micro-environments. The estate also has several places to sit and enjoy nature. The main at Wallington is another National Trust treasure that requires a few visits to truly appreciate the variety and uniqueness of the furniture, paintings, children’s toys, books, and other items. The central hall is amazing for its design and artwork depicting the area's past. The kitchen is outfitted with numerous bygone items, including many old earthenware jars that also caught our interest. The detailed doll houses in one room are also an attraction. Visited in late May 2025 Great place, in particular the gardens and woodlands, most of which is fully wheelchair accessible, but with some slopes which require a bit more "power". You can also reserve a tramper if you have some serious mobility issues, but make sure to reserve it in advance, especially if you intend to at the weekend... The was so and helpful! The is interesting and guides were and welcoming. But the main draw is the gardens and woodland walks. Just amazing trails and such views. Spent all the days here just exploring and walking. Utterly breathtaking at times. Another first at this National Trust in Northumberland. Plenty of parking with some disabled parking near the entrance and also some electric charging point for electric vehicles. As you through under the clock tower there is a large open with deck chairs and the first of many safe spaces for families to entertain children. There's a cafe, shop and toilets all on the ground level making them easy access. Further round is the entrance to this stately home that apparently has the largest grounds of all the National Trusts. There is wheelchair access into the to see the ground floor and also an elevator to go up stairs which is fantastic for people that struggle with stairs. There are lots of items and paintings to see so well worth a look around. Apparently, the was only gift to the Trust in 1947 and the last family member lived there right up to around 2011. There grounds are vast which include a lovey garden. You can hire peddle or electric bikes to get around £10 - £12. We got there in the afternoon so went straight around the as it closed at 15:30 but the grounds stay open till around 17:30. Another National Trust Gem. Well worth a visit. By the way the are really friendly, doing a wonderful job. Me and the family really enjoyed it here, the were very and there was plenty to do and see. We went for food and it was and the were so friendly. My kids favourite part was finding the little animals in the and my dads favourite part was the garden. 100% recommend if you're looking for a fun day out. We really enjoyed our brief here. They even had autumnal crafts on for the kids too! gardens, in full bloom. The river is well worth the effort (2 miles) for the views, not forgetting to the Hall, which has been preserved well. Visited Wallington on 8/3/25 and queued for a wee while to get in. We were a bit worried we'd be turned away due to how busy it was but there was plenty of parking despite how busy it was which was great. were super and helpful. Had some food at the cafe before we explored the grounds. Plenty of vegan cake options which was great but no vegan ready made sandwiches and I feel there was a lack of vegan options on the main menu also. We took the long round the grounds and saw the crocus lawn which was lovely, though the rest of the gardens were a little sad - though it is March so I guess that's to be expected!!
