Pro tip: it can feel like no one knows you're there if you're in the 'far section', but there's CCTV so someone will be along, although it did feel like they were one person short the day I was there... Beautiful stone buildings with a huge range of quality products created by local artists. Popped into The Running Fox for a coffee but couldn't resist the lunchtime special. Soup, a choice of sandwich and a cake. Probably spent 5 minutes choosing one of their amazing cakes. Friend had hot salmon and mashed avocado and I had tender chicken and mashed avocado sandwich. Staff are lovely. Will again soon to enjoy the lakeside and circular walk when it's not torrential rain. A quaint courtyard of craft and art and a cafe. items but very overpriced. Filled with history, being the birthplace of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown and the resting place of ‘The Unfortunate Man’, slain by marauding Scots in the 15th Century. There are a couple of places to get a drink and a snack, gifts and locally made crafts, and just to take a wander around. I visited here on the spur of the moment. The drive took me along some single track roads, which was interesting. I was disappointed. It's a nice enough place but not as many as I expected. The café was very busy, as were the toilets. There are some products on sale but I found them very expensive. It's not a place I'd go again. Excellent food, friendly staff, great place - of local products, park area, lake, stunning views. Lots of information about Capability Brown, and it was amazing to see one of his landscapes as it would have appeared in his lifetime after seeing how they look almost two centuries later at other places. Nice little park for kids, lots of walks, and and cafés (although the open after 11 on a Sunday). Fab little place. Restaurant is the running fox. The food is amazing. Was very disappointed when we visited that the craft venues and bakery were not accesible, having checked on the website before making our journey we then discovered only 2 units open. We were very fortunate to have the chance to have a second to this beautiful camp site last weekend, this time staying in 'Jean' the shepherd's hut. The hut is so with autumnal touches all over. Gillian and Paul put so much care into the finer details making our stay memorable. We were super cosy and the log burner heated up the hut in no time. The compost loo was amazing, it was clean and absolutely no 'toilet' smells, the only thing I smelt was the lemon fragrance from the sawdust that Gillian had added some natural lemon fragrance to. We met all the Alpacas, sheep and chickens and the surrounding scenery is stunning. We went to Tynemouth which was lovely. We had a wonderful time in beautiful countryside. The place is but the food in the cafe is disgusting. We ordered a tuna melt. It was inedible. The bread was very dry, stale and about 2 inches thick. There was a disgustingly thick layer of cheese on the top and a tiny amount of tuna in the middle which was far too salty to eat. Not only was this not unhealthy enough, but it was served with crisps! No salad anywhere in sight. The meal was not only inedible, but it was ridiculously expensive too.
