We visited early Autumn, lots of colour and butterflies in this perfectly kept garden Cragside house and gardens, my favourite place in the UK. So much to see and do, an amazing history, fabulous walks including a labyrinth and wonderful picnic places throughout the estate. You really need a whole day visit. Great if you love walking and accessible by car. Beautiful. We were there early spring so it must be wonderful when in full bloom Amazing house! 30 rooms to look in. Lovely homily feel. Beautiful extensive gardens . Over 40 acres! 6 mile self drive around estate known as the carriage drive. Usual cafe, shop and toilets. Cannot recommend enough. Free for NT members or £22 for non members. We spent 4 hours but you could spend all day walking around. Friendly volunteers. A great day out. We went in October. Gardens were still good. If you go in spring or summer I'm sure it would be even better! Go now don't hesitate! Cragside is 1 on of our favourite NT places to visit. There is so much to see and there are some great walks. We decided to visit the formal gardens for a change and it was worth it. The plants of daffodils and tulips were fabulous. I never knew that tulips could look so wonderful. The view from the gardens was lovely. I would certainly recommend a visit. The cafe is also first class and the shop has a good variety of stock. Beautiful displays in all parts of the garden. Photos don't really do the formal gardens justice! Very well kept, fantastic views and the flowers are simply beautiful! The garden is full of butterflies, bees and a mix of different birds! I love this garden, I’ve visited it both times I’ve been to Cragside so I could see it across two seasons. I visited in spring and the flowers were absolutely stunning. Visiting later in summer, I could see the change in flowers and how well the patterned beds turned out as they were only growing buds in spring. It’s a tranquil garden, with the option to play a spot of croquet on the lawn. I adore the water lily pond which was teaming with tadpoles in spring and bloomed water lilies in summer. There is a greenhouse which houses an orchard of fruit trees growing peaches, limes, pears and grapes. The greenhouse smells amazing this time of year as the fruits are getting bigger.
