Wonderful place. Hotel and club are bit outdated, but both courses are great. Also nice hotel and great Wellness. Over the years I have visited hill valley several times an found the property, the food and golf to be of a good standard. However after my recent visit I was very disappointed. The food was very poor. The evening meal was a bar meal of poor quality. The burger was dry and was only accompanied with a coffee cup of chips, no coleslaw or other sides. The breakfast was of a similar quality. The sausages appeared to have been reheated and were tough. The eggs were also dry and rubbery. Overall the food extremly poor. The golf course was also in poor condition. The tees were heavily worn and the fairways had bare lies and in desperate need of seeding. The rooms looked tired and the slicone around the shower base was mouldy and very unsightly. Will never return. Sapphire course awful pitch and putt really emerald course a lot better butt not manicured properly greens very poor but enjoyed our wkend break food and good bar prices very high don't take money only cards so that's not good 6 out of 10 ... Spa was very good, facial and massage top marks, changing facilities and disabled toilet were not very clean, rack on pool wall for staff to take out shoe covers had grey dirty drips all down it and the wall beneath, reception area was clean ,lady on reception was polite and lovely, room was at a glance clean and tidy, but both lamps were wobbly,no plug by bedsides, and the shower hose was black and grimy as was the disabled handle with orange and brown dirt and scum,an old toothbrush would clean well.... Restaurant was dark and a bit dingy looking,no windows, food was expensive as were the drinks, meals came and looked the part, but the chips were luke warm.and the lamb cutlets were very small and more fat than anything else.with 2meals 1 starter a bellini cocktail and 1 coke for £85 so over priced,we told the waitress when she asked how was the food, our thoughts but nothing was said, she looked a little embarrased tbh ,overall, the spa hotel is a lovely place, but restaurant food and prices need looking at cleanliness too,but couldnt fault the spa,we didn't golf so cant comment on that Lovely course. Very challenging. Set in woodland so trees are tricky obstacles. Quite long I think 6700 yards. A par 73. Has a half way house that serves everything you need. Plus a restaurant that I am told serves very good food. Hotel decent for the money, however the bar and reasutant are rubbish. Bar had less than half the beers on tap, the reasurant charged extortionate prices for dinner which was mediocre (steak cooked to how it was rather than asking, very small burger) Breakfast again very expensive. Charged extra for certain items on the menu if you don't have a full English - which without telling you won't include everything on description if they don't have it. Overall. Very unimpressed and wouldn't visit again. Disappointing. We had high hopes for our stay here. What a shame they were not fulfilled. The whole place is very 'tired'. In the public areas seats are worn, grubby and some even have holes in them. We upgraded our but it was difficult to see what we got as part of the upgrade. The coffee machine didn't work. The Elemis products consisted of shampoo and body wash, no conditioner, no body lotion, no hand cream. The mini bar was empty. Bar snack sandwich consisted of bread with a tiny piece of ham, small pot of coleslaw and 6 chips. Breakfast was fine. At no point did any of the staff ask us if 'everything is ok?' Maybe they knew what the answer would have been...'no not really'. The whole place looked very tired and needs massive investment to make it a place that we would visit again. Absolutely useless. As a wheelchair user I requested an accessible room. It was described as having a wet and an outside terrace. The wet was a walk in shower with a chair with arms on, making it impossible to transfer into. When I raised the issue with a member of staff, she offered me a velour chair with no arms.. ..for the shower! The terrace was accessed through the patio doors via a massive step, again totally unsuitable for the room. The spa was no better, it was accessed via a huge slope which I was unable to navigate on my own due to the gradient and the fact that it was pouring down at the time, making the slope extremely slippy. Once inside the spa area things didn't improve as there was no lift to get me into the pool, and the sauna and steam were also inaccessible. When I eventually got to speak to the manager he didn't seem interested and said he had had no complaints before. He also joked about the shower having a seat glued to the wall and suggested the spa staff could lower me in and drag me out of the pool by my arms!
