Nice reservoir, great from where we were. Could look across to the mountain railway station. Stunning location. Cracking view point of the reservoir. Some lovely up the valley from here. Not the place to play on the water as such as there is a big overspill hole and you could end up doing a twenty minute free dive instead! Go up the other end of the if you want to do some actives/swim. This overspill hole is pretty well known locally as it makes for a nice photo spot as does the rest of the valley views. The was really low when I visited in July, but the Pontsticill was every bit as beautiful with its iconic pump house building and bell-mouth spillway. Unfortunately, due to the drought, the water level was a lot lower than normal. However, it still offered some wonderful from the dam A beautiful place to roam. What a beautiful place this is. We walked the circumference of the today (took about 2 hours at a moderate pace) starting from the village at the south end, following the Taff Trail on the west side then crossing at the north end before following the path beside the mountain narrow gauge railway back to the dam and returning to the village. Easy going, no real hills and a beautiful changing set of views. Well worth having a look! I had read about the fascinating spout at this and believed to be the only one in Wales. It has to be seen to be admired, whether taking the car or steam train. You can also walk around the if you desire a day out. The are magnificent all around. I love this place.. It's a stones throw away from where I live. I run, cycle and walk around the Res regularly. If you complete a full lap of it you will cover roughly 4 miles, Some of the route is a fairly busy country road but I tend to divert and travel through Taf Fechan forest to avoid travelling along the road. It's great for gravel and mountain bikes alike. I regularly walk the dog here too, beware there are no dog waste bins on the route so I flick with a stick into the nearest bush instead of decorating the nearest tree branch with a bag of dog poo. There is a make shift cafe at Dolygaer activity centre (a coffee machine, some soft drinks and a selection of cookies) with some outdoor benches. There's another cafe at Pontsticill steam railway station. The of the res are impressive and there's always an abundance of wildlife to see. Great place for a stroll stunning scenery Amazing in this part of Wales, peaceful and tranquil with the brecon steam train station only a short drive away. Lovely place. Other than that great place can get muddy. The steam railway runs along the side of the foot path so will return in the not to distant future to see that.
