Beautiful. The isn't very big but you get a real sense of how it once was. Always amazed that there is no entrance fee. Perhaps a QR code to make small donations would raise money for the upkeep. Lovely which is easily accessible from Dolwyddelan, is 20 minutes. The is open for viewing on Friday-Sunday and Bank Holidays 10am-4pm, all other days is only open for external viewing only. Free entry, worth a visit! Picturesque Welsh Native castle, great panoramic of Dyffryn Lledr from the top, free to enter and a nice easy up from the layby Visited in September 2019 in my Wales holiday. I already spotted this on the map and one day I had the chance to visit on the way back to the cottage. It has a car park on the very side of the road, and here we can find some information about the castle. Then a walking path leads up to a not too friendly looking farm, where after knocked a door or ring a bell (can't remember now), a similar not too friendly looking lady opened the upper part of the door, asked for the money(CASH ONLY), and then show up to a fields gate saying, cross the gate and follow the path. That' was the only guide/map/instruction. The path leads up to the with sheep grazing around. We can get up to the ruins on uneven rock steps and even later we have to be careful, because it is full with rocks around and no comfortable path. The weather was very windy that day and I already had a bad experience at another attraction, so I was in a bad mood, and just wanted to pop in, see the and tick it on my list. Which I did. The area is nice, the view is lovely, but it is not a huge place to spend hours here. Also, I did not visit the show room of the castle, because the only rail was at the wall and the very uneven rock stairs were not sympathetic at all without rails at the outer side. Great castle. Free. Nice up. Bonus mini waterfall. The ruin itself is awesome. Nice little tower in the mountains with epic and lofty history. Sadly, the land is taken advantage of by local farmer(s?). The courtyard is full of sheep droppings. Absolutely everywhere. Leuk wandelingetje over romantisch pad vanuit het dorpje naar de ruïne. (Ongeveer 0,9 miles). Onderweg een klein feeëriek watervalletje. Alleraardigst voor wie niet van groots en meeslepend houdt,maar van kleine verrassende pareltjes. Bij de ruïne word je ook nog getrakteerd op prachtige vergezichten. Visited 26th Aug, but unfortunately the door was padlocked shut so was disappointed we couldn't go up and appreciate the views. Very atmospheric area with no/few others about. Little waterfall at the bottom where the lane splits. Beautiful just a quick 10-15min from the A470. We visited on a weekday so the wasn’t open (only opens on weekends) but was still worth a trip. Some reviewers have mentioned paying but this is free - just make sure you park in the lay-by at (53.0536486, -3.8971163) and enter through the gate that says there is access to the (see photo). Nice little up to the & small waterfall A must do if you're in the area. Park up in the layby between the and the village, then back to the clearly marked gate. An easy through the farm yard and along paths up the hill to the castle. You can go inside, and climb the stairs to the ramparts. Fabulous views. The first floor contains lots of information boards. And a bonus, it's all free. We went on a Sunday morning in August and were the only ones there. Don't forget to drop by for a look at the little water fall on the way back down. Amazing 👌 We didn't drive but walked from the Dolwyddelan village,there's a sidewalk along the main road,then a layby where you can park and then an access gate through a working farm.The hike is lovely,about halfway through the road forks left,if you go down there you'll see a waterfall.The ruins are on top of a hill,accessed by some stone steps.The scenery is absolutely breathtaking.You can also climb on top of the tower for even more breathtaking views,but the stone steps leading to the structure are quite steep and not for someone who's scared of heights. The only negative thing I would mention (but I guess it's a part of the rural charm) is that the place is an absolute minefield of sheep droppings.
