Amazing - not closed as they are outside! Two remain by road outside another is at the churchyard. On occasional Sundays a small museum is open at the - it is fantastic!!! One Aberlemno stone can be seen at Dundee Museum another was broken after failed attempt by HS to protect it - hopefully it will return!!! It's so cool to see. I didn't realize they were just along the roadway. They do have fantastic signs though giving information. They are on a back road thats narrow. these were wonderful to see basicly sitting on the side of the road but a safe parking area nearby ...doesnt take long to get around them all so doesn't long out of your day... There are four with Pictish carvings in the of Aberlemno, variously dating between about AD 500 and 800. Three stand on a roadside, while one stands in the churchyard. They comprise: a leaning, reused prehistoric standing stone an unshaped boulder bearing traces of two symbols a magnificent cross-slab a sandstone cross-slab in the churchyard The show a range of carvings, from characteristic Pictish symbols to overtly Christian iconography. Interesting to see, however the last stone was a bit tricky to find so we gave up with that one. I'd say it's easier to park up and walk to them, but we were too lazy for that but driving made it a bit trickier! Very narrow roads so take it easy and be careful cause some people still drive fairly fast on them. But interesting to see and no fees or paying for parking needed so that's a plus! Nice stroll in this off the beaten track sight with ancient rocks and friendly people. We parked at the and was greeted by happy and confident kids who also did up the tourist guide for Aberlamno. We took a stroll around the perimeter of the field to see the Pictish and visited the church and cemetery. Had a quick meal overlooking greenery and a good break for the legs before a long drive for the day. We were looking for the toilet in the church premise and chanced upon the unique church and I thought it was beautiful and cosy. Bit underwhelming, but a short detour so worth the time. The stone in the churchyard is the most spectacular imo So worth a visit! Fascinating set of spread across 2 locations in the (church yard and on the roadside).Two of the are very well preserved and double-sided with amazing details. You can park at the parking lot to see the roadside stones. There’s even a well-maintained toilet in the that visitors are welcome to use (please leave a donation!). For history and culture lovers an absolut must!!! Park at the town (there are only a few houses, you won't miss it). There is a little visitor center explaining the history of the picts and there is a toilet in the hall. The are only a few meters from the car park. Another stone is 300meters away on the graveyard at the little church.
