Just some ruins of an old castle. This is not really interesting, almost fully destroyed and access prohibited. It is build with round stones Shame the whole or what's left of it is behind fencing, by the looks of it , it will never be brought back to a site that is fully accessible which is a shame but it all costs money and no doubt a lot. That being said some new information boards would be welcome ... If you're passing then worth a quick look ... A sad spectacle of decay and lack of resources within the country to maintain our history and culture. Having said that it's an awesome ruined castle. Edward the 1st no less It's the ruins of a very old castle. It's hard to see because the fences are all around it. Not a lot to see as the is in ruins. When I say ruins I mean a couple of walls and a few piles of rubble. Very little information on the itself. It is in the middle of nowhere so please don't expect public toilets or tea room. The around the loch was very enjoyable but we do love a walk, the ground was flat and whilst boggy in places all ways were dry. The looks quite sad, it's currently surrounded by fences. It is in need of some love. Even the information boards are hard to read and covered in algae. There is a path leading down to the waters edge - don't bother, full of discarded BBQs and used as a bike track. A shame as this could be a beautiful spot like the rest of the around the loch. Highlights were the fabulous ice cream from the shop in Lochmaben after the walk. Quick visit for ruins! The itself is in a gorgeous state of disrepair, but that also means it's largely fenced off - and unfortunately the informative plaques are weathered and tough to read. Still a gorgeous little stop! Loch circular incorporates woodland, meadow and lochside walking. This passes the ruined Lochmaben which is currently fenced off but visible. A pleasant that is a nice way to take in the scenery in every season. Also a great excuse to stop off for an ice cream in town!
