A very pleasant aviation just outside Dumfries. The are all volunteers with a good knowledge of the displays and site. It is reasonably priced and there is a free car park for visitors. There is a small cafe for light refreshments and toilets available on site. A really with friendly and knowledgeable volunteer who are always willing to answer questions and explain 'stuff'. The specific talks about the exhibits are well worth taking the time to listen and learn. Each of the small hangers deals with a specific topic and are well presented and interesting, with good information boards. The Loch Doon spitfire is really well presented and an extremely exhibit, having actually been involved in the Battle of Britain The cafe has good selection of snacks and hot beverages and is again staffed by very nice people. Toilets are fresh and clean and there is good parking If you are in the area give this place a try, it is an and enjoyable place. Had an extremely good time here. We went as a family of 5 and we all found it incredibly interesting. Plenty to see, plenty to read and great facilities. Peter who talks us through the findings of the Spitfire is an absolute credit to this too, very to listen to (as are all the staff, who were all helpful and happy along the way). The spitfire there was just amazing and well as all the other planes, helicopters on show. The displays have been very thought out to show and give as much information as possible. Not forgetting the lovely ladies in the tea room that know how to make a wonderful cup of tea and coffee. You are all amazing and thank you for such a wonderful outing today A very nice and beautifully maintained with lots of very exhibits. In addition to the main attraction, the Spitfire Mk.IIa pulled from Loch Doon and beautifully restored by volunteers, the also offers a control tower representing state during WWII, an exhibition of airborne troops, the homefront, an accessible Hawker Siddeley Trident, engines and many other artifacts. The best thing, however, is the of volunteers who modestly but helpfully talk to visitors not only about the exhibits in the museum, among whom is Peter, who himself, as a diver, found a Merlin engine from the Spitfire on display in Loch Doon. A visit to this can only be recommended and it is necessary to pay tribute to the entire who voluntarily and in their free time take care of this museum. Fantastic day out. I went primarily to get pictures of the Gannett but was really got taken in by the spitfire talk. were knowledgeable and friendly. A big big shout out to the cafe who were great. Spent so long chatting with them my coffee went cold. Great day out. One word of caution. As you would probably expect, it's an outdoor event and open air. Although it's, on the while, wheel chair friendly, there is a bit of walking and suffers from the Scottish weather. Also there is a couple of places needing to walk stairs (an aircraft and the control tower) so Although there is plenty of other things to see consider your ability to climb stairs. Wonderful with an abundance of WW2 artifacts and planes from several eras! The Spitfire exhibit was amazing and I enjoyed hearing about the history of its use in battle as well as its final flight. The here are very knowledgeable and you can tell they love what they do! Definitely worth a trip!
