I wasn’t expecting things as I’ve been to plenty of UK pubs for food and it’s usually disappointing, or very pricey if good. I was proved completely wrong here! All of our mains were £9-£14, huge portions, quality of food and delicious. My curry was properly spicy with flavours. I couldn’t finish all of the rice, and naan! was a bit slow but it was busy on a Monday night. Only one real ale on draught but it was decent. Big car park. The toilets are quite tired and need updating, but functioned absolutely fine. Food was fantastic, was great. Needs a bit of a revamp, all a bit quiet mind. Just needs a bit of TLC. However they accommodated my weird needs. Just a bit over priced, could help them thrive again, just need a little bit of help! Visited Monday lunch time in a party of six, received and everyone was happy with the standard of their meals, it was very busy for a Monday lunch service. Called into this old pub and had an excellent meal in the dining area. The front porch is closed and you have to go around the side past some pallets if you are on foot. wheelchair access at the back door to the car park. British food done in the best way. I had the salt and pepper shredded chicken starter as a main, nom nom nom. This traditional pub is located in the centre of the village under the railway bridge in the middle of the road fork. Recommended stop off point. Nice friendly atmosphere. Far too much cheese on on the lasagna and it was very cold and salad was not that because it wasn’t so much dressing and the garlic bread with the same is too hard for starters are cheesy garlic bread and they taste a lot more better where the lasagna was not that And it’s very outdated restaurant okay just pop in for something quick. I won’t come here again for a full meal. Always a warm welcome from the staff here. Food is really good, home cooked food. Very value for money Little village pub, with simple, yet does the job food. With a some simple refinements/upsates it'd be a real hidden gem. though 👌🏼 Brilliant food and 3 courses for £24 2 for £21 1 for £18 what a meal I had breaded mushrooms to start then hunters chicken which was fantastic ,then alabama fudge cake delicious ,highly reccomend There was quite a large group of us and we were all served in rapid succession by pleasant staff and food will be returning. Excellent. Staff were very welcoming and the restaurant area was very warm and comforting. Nice open fire made it cosy. Then the menu wasn’t to big but enough to have a choice. We chose 9oz burger and WOW it was delicious and tasty, didn’t taste like normal pub grub it tasted like it was freshly made and tasted like real home cooked food. We would highly recommend a visit and we will be revisiting. We choose to have lunch here. Ordered fish and mushy peas. The pub appeared pretty quiet. We were informed there was no Coffee machine available only instant coffee, which was declined. After quite a wait, our food arrived. The fish looked greasy but we were both hungry and decided to eat it. The mushy peas were returned due to them being cold. When they arrived back, they were luke warm! The fish was just about edible but the were nice. On paying, I gave feedback to the person on the bar, who responded with 'sorry about that' before moving away to serve someone else. It would appear that the and quality of the food has definitely not improved since our last visit, we will not frequent this place again! Nice place, and food. Excellent location. When we first arrived it felt a little cold(radiators were cold) and we were surprised how few people were in. However, it did warm up and the meals were yummy as always. The lack of customers could have been because it was half term and there was a bonfire/display on I. Wrexham. All in all we had lovely evening. Had a brilliant time at this pub! The was spot on—quick, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was delicious! What really made the visit special was the staff—so friendly and chatty, they made us feel right at home. Called in last night Ordered food and did not turn up for 45min…..and waiting. Paid for drinks and left. Very disappointed, no apology, Understaffed. Will not be going back. Outside: Beautiful, very pretty building. Inside: Bland and dull tables and chairs are tatty and the men’s toilets are disgusting. Food: 10/10 delicious and filling. The atmosphere on what should be a busy Sunday afternoon was non-existent, there were only 2 tables including us occupied and a few people at the bar. The was poor, when we arrived we asked for a table for 2 and were gestured to “sit somewhere in the corner”. The gentleman who served us seemed really friendly, but inexperienced. He came to the table and we asked for a few more minutes to decide and he never came back. We weren’t asked if the food okay at any point during eating. When we finished I cleared the table myself and took the plates to the bar and asked for a dessert menu, which they don’t have, so had to remember what was available. We decided to skip dessert as the options weren’t the same as previous visits, no crumble available which was always my favourite. The beef roast was okay, just a touch bland, the beef was okay, only lacking a bit of flavour, the veg was and the Yorkshire pudding was a bit stale. The fish and were also only okay, the were hot but the breading on the fish was limp and not very crispy. I’m not sure if this is typical for The Holly Bush, as other people seem to have had a experience from what I can see from recent reviews. It seems that The Holly Bush has changed hands in the last 12 months, I didn’t recognise anyone as we used to visit The Holly Bush for all family meals and it’s my Dad’s favourite place. I think for the cost of the meals (all £16.50) there are definitely better places to eat around town, which is a shame because The Holly Bush used to be a gem. I appreciate the place seems to be in a transitional period, but 9 months seems a long time to still be struggling with basics. We’ll call again and hopefully find that this was a one off experience!
