The is fairly new so is very nice with views over the lake while eating. Note! it’s south facing with large windows do have your sunglasses handy if it’s a clear day. There is a nature trail going all around the lake - just over a mile long with a few to watch the wildlife from. There is a car park which charges £2 for all day via coins or contactless means. All together a place to chill out on a nice day. Hubs and son spent two glorious hours here. I'm on crutches so I sat and read my book in the sunshine. First time visiting and the first bird I saw was a beautiful male bullfinch on a feeder, which I must have watched for 20 minutes. Next up was a barn owl chick on the edge of its nest box, flapping its wings furiously. I then had 4 sightings of barn owls hunting and stooping for prey. Just amazing. The staff are and so friendly, the has the most amazing outlook. I went on a damp dull day but left beaming. Wow, what a place to go to. It's charity based with no admission fee but you can donate without pressure if you want to. £2 to park a car for the day. Several really well made wooden bird with comfy benches and windows to open to watch the birds (make sure you have your binoculars),.Most face inward towards the water, 1 facing the north sea although it's aimed at the bird feeders the trust has placed there. They have a comfy with sarnies, some hot sarnies scones/cakes. Service is too. Only one toilet that I found in the cafe. Not sure if there's more somewhere else. Thought I was gonna have 2 hours there, ended up the whole day. Carpark closes at 5:30pm Got there for 9am and managed to get round nearly all the which were mostly unoccupied. Saw lots of different birds. The are situated in different spots so you’ve got different views and birds from each one. It’s about a mile to walk around all the and back to the entrance/cafe. Nice quiet sandy beach. for walking dogs and having a picnic. Unfortunately dogs not allowed in the wildlife discovery centre but the beach made up for it. Called in for coffee and on Sunday morning. We had our dog so sat just outside main entrance,there is a covered area if weather not too good. I can honestly say the coffee was lovely but the were amazing. So fresh and tasty. We have everywhere we go and these were definitely one of the best ones we have tried. The lady on reception came out to give our dog fresh water and a few little treats and she was so friendly and we spoke with her for some time. I have walked the reserve on my own and it so peaceful loved seeing all the wildlife. Highly recommend.
