Although both castles share the same architect, they are both unique for their own reasons. The post-apocalyptic scenery is truly from a movie. Roam the derelict rooms where ghosts might be hiding and imagine its past beauty! Do not forget to visit its little brother. It may not be as imposing but it has its own charm. Worth a stop if you're nearby, but road conditions may limit further exploration. Dalquharran was a cool sight to visit, even though access is limited to viewing the exterior. The abandoned structure has an eerie yet fascinating presence, and it’s interesting to see how nature has reclaimed parts of the site. The is located down a private road, and while you can reach it, you can’t go inside as it’s fenced off for safety. I had considered venturing to find the other nearby but decided against it due to the dirt and muddy roads—not ideal for a rental car. If you’re in the area and enjoy abandoned places, it’s definitely a neat stop, but keep in mind the limited access and road conditions before heading out. Approx a ten minute from the main road as there is no parking near the castle. A beautiful building which has been left open to the elements since circa 1960 when I was abandoned and the roof removed to avoid paying tax on the building. Seen from above there are striking resemblances the nearby Culzean Castle, which isn’t surprising as they were both designed by Robert Adam. Please be careful if entering as the building isn’t in the best state and there are still some wooden floors which will undoubtedly be rotten. Great old ruin Obviously they don't want people walking around But side fence is a big opening so we had a around such a shame It's definitely worth the short to this place. Easy to get in and look around. The outer skin of this is in great order and it is such a shame it has fallen into ruin. A beautiful Friday morning for a to this ruined majestic Castle! Definitely an interesting visit Ok so as someone who comes here quite a bit This is a perfect little day out for families there is two castles too adventure and see both accessible as of 2024 1st March the only thing really that you need to know is be safe when exploring it’s showing age and don’t let kids run of ahead to find the you want to park your car in daily next to the school you will see a path to your left take that down the track and you will see it in no time. not recommended for disabled or wheelchairs/buggy’s can also be a bit of a hassle the main is fenced off you will need to follow the right side around until you meet the other far side there will be a hole you can hop through please take rubbish home with you We was holidaying in Ayrshire and thought to find this derelict castle. When you follow the sat nav it will just take you to a closed gate on the edge of some private land. You have to park your car on the roadside opposite and then through the gate and follow the path down for about 10 - 15 minutes and then it will be on your right hand side. It's quite a substantial size building. It's just amazing! But do be careful though as at anytime things could collapse inside. One of the concrete spiral staircases has partially gone so I didn't want to attempt the other one. You can tell that it isn't such an old as wood is present on the walls. Seem safe enough to carefully explore it- we were not brave enough to go upstairs though, as the steps didn't look vey safe and some of them have collapsed. As soon as you enter the grounds, the silence hits you, creating great atmosphere for exploring if you know the history of this ;) Amazing place with great walks. Two castles with such history. Created by the same designers as Culzean you can clearly see the similarities. No sign of the white lady but great walks around the area and amazing Fantastical caslte.
