A free and reasonable sized carpark at the bottom of the but quite busy so may need to get there early. from carpark up and back about 4 miles but has soe tricky walking parts which can be slippy when wet and plenty of loose stones on path but well worth the effort. Pretty much all uphill to the top so reasonable level of fitness needed Visited here on our tour of the NC 500. Plenty of parking at the start and its about a 2 mile hike through the woods ip the hill. Took us about 1 hr, not a hard but not the easiest either. The view at the top is well worth the and at least its down hill on the way back. Stunning views from monument at the top of the hill. The up to the hill is steep at some parts but paths are good and some parts are sheltered by trees. Would go prepared with water etc. It took around hour and fifteen minutes to reach top walking at steady pace with dog and a few stops. It's definitely worth it to see the monument and views. No issues with parking even though it was busy. Unbelievable views from the monument. It might have been one of the most picturesque hikes I’ve ever done. I did run into some biting flies though about halfway the hike and they followed me until the winds blew them away at the top. I decided to hike down the backside through some of the logging roads and I ran into a dozen or so downed trees blocking the path. I had to cut through the woods quite a bit to get around them. It's a fairly steep trek up through the woods to the monument, signage isn't great but it you join the train from the carpark, just keep going straight at any crossroads, and keep going up... You'll find it, the view from the top is an amazing reward! 2 mile uphill mainly through trees so plenty of shade Pond to stop off at on way with suitable picnic spots Very windy at the top but, fantastic aerial views worth the climb Did this during a weekday and it was really quiet can imagine this place at the weekend being quite busy. There is good area for parking for cars and camper vans. The route is pretty self explanatory just straight and don’t turn off at any of the crossroads which did make us ponder for a bit. It’s a challenging but not overly hard (if unfit or with kids this will take longer some big inclines). Would recommend taking water. There were a lot of annoying flys on the way up and not many areas for stopping and resting. Some great views at the top. Quite steep. Amazing stage of hike, worth every single minutes. Highly recommend. Easy to park!
