Tafarn-Y-Phoenix

Ammanford, United Kingdom Pub

One of the Best Places To Visits in Gorslas Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Friendly atmosphere. The was very accommodating. A good Welsh experience for travellers. Group booking for a party of 8 at lunchtime. We all felt welcomed and well looked after. All the meals arrived hot, well presented and at the same time which was great. Ian and Christine couldn't do enough for us 👍🏼. We've already decided to return as a group to this lovely pub 😊 Great food, mac n cheese with peri peri chicken 😋 Good prices. Lovely staff. Very helpful staff, managed to add three extra bodies to the booking at short notice on father's day. They were polite, accommodating, had smiles on their faces and checked in with us without being invasive. The food was very good, everyone enjoyed it and there was no issues with anything. Two of us had the big daddy burger which was excellent, two great chicken Sunday roasts and three various Kiddie dinners which were polished off. All in all great value including the drinks and worth a visit if your hungry. If I could give a five star review to Meg alone then I would. I came with my 5 year old and baby in the pram. She was extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. She made a mistake (human error) when taking the order. She put in a child’s fish and chips instead of fishfingers and chips. Once she realised she came out to let me know. Apologised profusely. Easy mistake to make. She instructed that before I leave that to get the fish and chips refunded and to pay for the fish fingers. No problem at all. Went to get the issue sorted before leaving but Meg was very busy and had to speak to the manager. What a bully! I explained what had happened and that it was no issue. But he insisted on huffing and puffing like a spoilt teenager. I said again mistakes happen and that she’s been so helpful. But he continued to be annoyed. Meg then came to the til to try and explain what had happened. Instead of letting her speak he began to shout and scream at her in front of customers and making her cry. Would he have shouted abuse to another male his own size? I doubt it. I interrupted and personally thanked Meg for all her help. She made eating out with two your children a Joy. After having the payment sorted I informed him that his attitude was extremely unprofessional with the way he spoke to his staff. Instead of apologising he went off on another rant about how she’s made mistakes. But with no consideration of his own attitude and behaviour when working front of house. Maybe it’s his managerial and leadership ‘skills’ that need working on to improve better relations and job satisfaction. I hope to god this was a one off and that he doesn’t regularly bully his which I highly doubt. Utterly disgusted at how angry he got. I really hope Meg get an apology and he works on his issues! Another disappointing visit to Tafarn y Phoenix. When we arrived, the owner (I assume) was rude when we mentioned we’d booked. Because we’d booked online less than an hour before our booking time, they said we didn’t have a booking (despite a text and email confirmation). Surely the point of having a booking system is that it notifies — otherwise, what’s the use? We ordered food via the app, but drinks took a while to arrive. When the owner eventually brought them, he leaned awkwardly over my 4-year-old daughter to put them on the table, nearly spilling them over her. When our food finally came, I had the hunter’s chicken, described as being smothered in BBQ sauce. In reality, there was barely any sauce, the chicken was dry and tough, and the meal was very poor quality. What stood out most was that not once did the owner check on our table — yet he did so with every other table around us. The only member who was pleasant was the young girl working there. Overall, the food quality was subpar and the service (bar that one member) is unwelcoming. Very disappointing. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we’ve had an experience like this. Years ago, it was a lovely place to go for a decent meal, but recently the quality has dropped noticeably. The mashed potato is often dry and stodgy, as though it’s been overcooked; portions rarely match what’s advertised; and there’s always an unwelcoming atmosphere. We visited this time using a 40% off voucher, and even that wasn’t enough to dull the disappointment. Sadly, this will be our last visit — which is a real shame, as the location is perfect for us Three of us have had a lovely lunch today as usual. Two of us had the chilli and my other friend had the ribs absolutely gorgeous food. The Phoenix is a lovely place to visit smashing front of house who always do their very best for you. Reasonable prices for good quality food. What more do you want. See you Sunday for one of your beautiful roasts. David, Christine and Denise xxx Do NOT go there if you have any allergies. Ordered a meal, wasn't initially asked if I had any allergies, despite requesting a gluten free steak. When I asked for confirmation my order would be Gluten Free, the response didn't fill me with confidence, and I felt like an inconvenience, turns out it was the manager that served me..... to my horror, my steak turned up with onion rings on it.... didn't 'feel comfortable eating it, so wasted most of it...what a surprise, I didn't feel to well that evening. I will not be returning!
