So worth the visit Barony castle great for a wee cuppa n scone . you can see the map from on a elevated position as there is a viewing platform here you can up. to get to the map you have to park up at the barony hotel, along a little then down 10 steps then up another 10 steps then you arrive at the map. just a hint there is a lot of pebbles when walking about near the map so just be careful in case you may slip and you don't want that. It is impressive to see, however it has obviously not been maintained for some years. Weeds and moss growing from it, water is stagnant. If managed properly it has the opportunity to be what looks to be a decent tourist attraction It's a place if your passing its worth a look but not much else other than the to see We were staying at the Horseshoe Inn and had a short to the castle to the map. There are some nice paths to along, and the information regarding the map was very informative. There are not many free attractions to visit these days. But this is one, and very good at that. Go down the left hand side of the castle and you’ll see a wooden gate, go through the gate and cross the wooden bridge; it was a bit slippery. Once you cross the you will see a green railing surrounding the map. I agree with some of the other reviews, the viewpoint isn’t high enough to get a decent of the map in its entirety. It was interesting and there was a map so you could understand which bits was which. In all honesty it reminded me of a penguin enclosure; a fenced off with a rocky mound, surrounded by a bit of water. We are staying at the castle so it was nice to around the grounds and discover it but if I wasn’t staying here I wouldn’t waste my time diverting to see it Free admission. Situated in the grounds it is well sign posted.a lovely over a wuth stream and waterwheel .the actual map is a bit disppointing despite there being a staircase up to a viewing platform .the map is impressive considering it was done in the 70s however it would be an ingredible site if it was painted and has more water around.it looked unloved and unkept. Im sure people would put in money if they had a voluntary donation box for upkeep as it is a unique and orginal map The great Polish map of Scotland was a very beautiful site to see, that we happened across while driving through the area. It was a lovely little and a beautiful setting with so much history! I would highly suggest checking this place out, and even consider staying at the castle attached to it! Came from the south side ..roads is one way till you hit the junction..turn left ..then as the road turns left ..you take the road straight on ..it heads into the hotels land. There is free parking. There is a sign on the left of the car park as you look at the ..follow it round ..once you hit the grass there is steps go down and it is across the bridge..but be carefull as it's was very slippy when we went ..there is no sign at the opening to the steps but half way across the which is no use for anyone being there Unfortunately, you can hardly see it from the viewpoint they created, its not high enough. Also It doesnt look like they really maintain it. Visited the Great Polish Map of Scotland on our 1st wedding anniversary weekend. It was great to see such a magnificent piece of history in person. If it's on your route to somewhere, it's worth dropping in but not worth a specific journey to visit. Looks a bit tatty too. Needs some weedkiller and maintenance. Nice place to visit but need to be cleaned. Weed taking over it quickly. A nice and unique place, located in the grounds but in an open behind it, so it is open to the public for free 24 hours. The place is quite neglected, it was built in the mid-70s of the twentieth century, and the last time it underwent comprehensive care and preservation was in 2013. At the moment the water around the stone map is cloudy and dirty, and weeds are growing on the map. In the past the map was apparently painted, but it hasn't been like that for decades. There is a small raised platform in order to the map from a little higher, but it is still very low so that you do not see the entire map effect, and in fact there is no way to see the entire map from a bird's eye view, you have to use your imagination a lot. It's a nice place to stop if you happen to be traveling in the and have a few minutes to spare, as we had, but there's really no point in coming here especially, certainly not from afar. This monument is a very moving tribute to the Polish forces who came to Scotland in the early years of the Second World War to help the allies to recover Europe.
