I have not been to Grassington for many a year, but now it is famous as the setting of TV's "All Creatures Great and Small." Not a big place but nice selection of shops and eating places. And it is surrounded by the Yorkshire Dales. What more could anyone want? Visited during thier 1940.s War Weekend. Very busy but a great atmosphere and some great exhibits including a Spitfife in the town square. Of course, this is also the location where a lot of All Creatures Great and Small was filmed Incuding the Drovers Arms (Devonshire Arms) The town with its bridges and dam is astonishingly beautiful. Worth a nice walk around,and the lovely streets with small restaurants and pubs offers "drink and food remuneration". The river bank is relatively clear,however there are no designated pick nick areas,playgrounds or fireplaces.Therefore it might not fill a day for the family,this explains the lost star. Pubs cafes, public loos, supermarket, tourist centre and a gorgeous river walk where you can walk in the non slippy river or swim in deeper pools in clean cold water. The drive to get there across country was a delight too. I took a coach load of people on a steam and cruise yorkshire dales trip over the weekend.
