One of the most impressive spiritual places in Romania is located only 100 km away from Bucharest in Buzau County. About 30 settlements are spread over a surface of more than 5 square km between Alunis, Nucu and Bozioru villages. Saint Iosif’s is the largest stone located 3 km away from Nucu. Carved in a huge rock, the has preserved the initially aspect. Above the entrance there is a fish, a paleo-Christian symbol. Dionysius the Spinner (Pestera Dionisie Torcatorul), the stone house where the monk, skillful at spinning and weaving wool chose to live in solitude. The has places for bed, table and a vertical weaver. Visited August 2023 Historical place deep inside Buzau hilly county. A series of antropic caves digged in the rock, dated many centuries ago. Highly recommended! Un loc deosebit de frumos The legend is more interesting than site! It is an amazing place surrendered by mountains! But the local road has no asphalt for 15 km, and after parking you must walk another 2 km till the first cave. One restaurant 5 km before parking, open after 3 pm. Peaceful place, nice to go to visit the area. A little bit to much advertising for those places The routes between points of interes are not so well marked, in the junctions the mark is missing. Recommended to download the tracks or ask more info at Tourist Info Point Alunis. Be sure to have with you food, mosquito spray, medicines, .... ( no pharmacy there, just few very small markets) Gravel road for the last 6-8 miles from Bozioru to Nucu. Beautiful area, lots of trails from easy to difficult but worth the effort. There is a 2€ entry fee in the park and hard to find a parking spot. Bring water with you, there are few streams on the trails but none potable. Sturdy boots and a stick will help you. Terrible roads leading to Nucu which is one of the gateways to the paintings tour. Other than that, the landscape is incredibly beautiful with both forests and plateaus. There are plenty of tourists at least during the summer weekends so you should not feel like you could be attacked by a bear at any point. We would recommend contacting the local info point in Nehoiu or the Colti museum to give you the name of the only tour guide in the area. Overall it's a one of a kind place with beautiful views that is worth the effort of getting to it. Beautiful and out of the ordinary landscape, it was worth it. Iosif's if simply unique. Dionisie's instead is small and it's closed anyway. Just prepare for the last hour of driving to be ONLY on gravel road. ℹ️THE ROCK-HEWN SHELTERS People have lived in the rock-hewn shelters for hundreds of years. In the Meadow you will find at least two shelters that were carved by people. One of them is known as Dionisie the Weaver's and the other as losif's Cave. If you venture even further, you will explore the Agaton. This was built on the edge of a precipice. Unfortunately, because of its location, a large part of the Agaton was destroyed over time by rock slides and earthquakes. The ⛰️ rock-hewn shelters are a historical 🗿 mystery. We say this because there are only a few clues left that point to their origin. There are some things that we can conclude. For example, it seems that a population that came all the way from Anatolia was responsible for carving the shelters. If you visit the Alunis site (Mayoralty of Colti) we'll tell you how we came to this conclusion! It is possible that they were among the first Christians ✝️ to arrive in this part of the world. Later on, monks and hermits lived in the man-made caves and used them as places of worship. Some of the shelters were used until the 1800s. With a few pauses, it seems that people lived in the rock-hewn houses🏠 for more than 1000 years! Hiking in Romania, Buzau Mountains. Amazing place with a special vibe. There are no words to describe the feeling. O experienta de neuitat, recomand. O mare surpriză, pietre sculptate uimitor de natură. Accesul este mai complicat, amenajările sunt precare. Mare păcat că industria de turism românească nu vrea să profite mai mult de aceste comori ale naturii. Amazing place, very interesting caves (it’s a shame people vandalised the inside of some of them…) Bring water and food with you, have comfortable clothes and shoes. Horrible road to get there, be careful with your car There are little to no signs to help you know the way There are signs that inform you about the place and the history of the place (from the parking spot to Poiana Cozanei) but to help you know the way and the distance there are no signs. Is important for people to know the pathway to the objective and where to stop. People only go to “Chilia lui Dionisie Tocatorul” because is close and accessible, but for “Fundul pesterii” and “Scaunele lui Negru Voda” people don’t adventure to get to them and its a shame At “Scaunele lui Negru Voda” the sign has fallen to the ground and its old and you can’t understand what’s wrote on it. The same is with the other signs that are in “Poiana Cozanei” they are old and time has washed away the writing. I recommend this place if it’s good weather and no rain, for a little weekend adventure maybe. Nu va duceti acolo! Poate cu elicopterul... Macar nu mi-au luat bani ca raxa de vizitare... Am reusit sa ma intorc si sunt super extaziat...Am reusit! The place is beautiful but the signs can be a bit misleading. Also if you don't have a 4x4 car you have to be careful because the road is pretty rough. People don't really climb but i tell you it's a nice view from up there.
