The atmosphere is very fun and lively. They were a little bit slow in serving us but it was because they were packed and they kindly squeezed us in. We had a problem or two with the order and the manager came right over and helped solve it, though we didn't ask for her. Two of us had burgers and they were both excellent. The bun was a little dry but the smoked bacon and smoked cheese burger was very good. The soup of the day was "broccoli and cauliflower" so my wife expected a cream based soup. Instead it was more of a vegetable soup also with carrots and celery, though it was still tasty. The salmon was good. For an Irish pub restaurant, in a small town I highly recommend. It was a good way to finish off our Ireland tour. Love Mattie's every time we visit the Larne area (for many years)! Especially on Thursday nights for live Irish music. Well priced and great service.... Never a bad meal and mixed drinks are strong! If you’re looking for an authentic local pub with great fresh home-cooked style Irish food this is a little gem nearby Ballygally Castle. The food is simple, fresh, seems locally sourced or home grown. And the people are terrific. Definitely worth a stop. Visited here whilst driving the Causeway Coastal Route - highly recommended, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and the food and service was second to none. The food was delicious, with very generous portions! Wasn't anything special..I had a burger and chip..burger was over cooked and bland and of not a great size along with very little chips... my wife said her chicken goujons the batter was soft ...we both had chocolate brownie the slice was the size of nothing.. drinks were fine not with £14each I rate its worth about £8each... its a pity as we ate there before and had a nice meal... :-/ Went there today. Food was exceptional, hot, delicious, well priced and very tasty. Best staff and service. Great spot with unique atmosphere.. don't pass it by . 5☆ from me xx The best place I have ever been to. I highly recommend great staff, a true insight to the true Irish culture My all time favorite pub in all of Ireland. The staff and locals were incredible, the food was to die for, the atmosphere was great, and the cat Friday made the experience even better!
