I needed a long rest and loads of fluids at Strathaven park after my visit which was a lot more arduous than Calderglen last week. I needed a lot of help from my friend. Nice wee for a Sunday morning stunning If you have a decent map or GPS you can do this lovely in either direction between Strathaven and Sandford. I've done it 3 times - both directions. It's around 2 miles one way. There are some steep steps in places but the footpath alongside the is flat and grassy - take care where it's narrow with stone flagstones. The is very photogenic (picture 1) and the wee footbridge over the Avon is fun (picture 2). There are information boards at the ruined mill explaining the interesting story behind the farm arsonist! Go on a sunny day and take your camera. Allow around 2 if you do it both ways. This is a hidden gem. It's easy to access and offers a peaceful retreat, especially with the historical charm of the Mill ruins nearby. It's a fantastic spot for a post-work stroll to reconnect with nature. Do be cautious, as the rocks by the can be slippery in the winter. On a side note, while following the upstream, I noticed what appeared to be a sewage pipe discharging into it, accompanied by a noticeable odor. Therefore, I would advise against swimming in these waters. A lovely with a walkway to view the falls. The ruins of the old mill are nice as well with an information board telling you the history of the area. Highly recommend coming after heavy rainfall. Loved this place. The plaque at the bottom gives you a little history of rhe place and it has quite a sad tale attached to it. If it’s raining or after rain definitely recommend some mud proof shoes and trousers. And shoes are a great idea as well so could enjoy some activities. My husband accidentally fell into the when he tried to take photos from the other side of the little river. So maybe a pair of spare socks and towel if necessary?
