But Ally has been many times and enjoyed many espressos here. It is a coffee, though. The venue is light airy and spacious, with a separate door for to visit in a slightly separate food area. There is plenty of small businesses to support in the shop. They have some fabulous outdoor seating too and a dog run (which needs to be booked at charge) worth the drive from Glasgow The is excellent for curries, better than a lot of takeouts and affordable. The cafe is too expensive for more than an occasional visit unfortunately and service is dependent on staff, some are much nicer and friendlier than others. Absolutely beautiful setting and welcome. Loads of parking so never a problem. Fine if passing as a one off, would support more often if prices were slightly lower. Lentil and bread £6.95.Would have preferred crusty bread with the soup. I found the staff very difficult and rude. Even when trying to pay for the field (which you have to do in the shop) a staff member snarled at my mum saying she couldn’t bring the dog to the even though I was standing outside with him. If you were coming alone with your dog paying may prove to be difficult. Food was average but over priced. £12 for a toastie is a bit ridiculous especially given how little filling was in it (see photo). Lentil was also quite tasteless. We live in the west end of Glasgow so we are use to inflated and eat out a lot. Also took a considerable amount of time. The dog menu was however was told by a member of staff that the dog couldn’t have water in the premise and I could go use a bowl outside. If they’re providing food, especially dry kibble, there should be access to water. Feels more tolerated than welcomed. I would be back for the dog field but would skip on lunch. Ordered two avocado toasts, a toastie, and a jacket potato and waited over 35 minutes before food arrived. When it did, it wasn't very warm, wouldn't say it was particularly flavoursome either. Gift is nice. We decided that we would try out this lovely wee and kitchen that kept popping up on TikTok. We arrived after a mr toads wild ride on the country roads which we always enjoy. We walked through the wee to thr cafe part first, thought we would look at that after we scanned. We all went for toasties. cafes are always more expensive but we knew that and if it tastes amazing we are willing to pay. Toasties were 10.95 but they include salad, crisps and coleslaw and we paired it with a cup of skin on fries to share. The bread used was so fresh and tasty and they did not scrimp on the fillings either. I had tuna and cheese toastie, my daughter had ham and cheese and the boys had haggis chilli jam and cheese. These toasties were so tasty and filling 😋 and ingredients were so and fresh. For four of us plus drinks it came to 60 pounds. Yes its a bit expensive but it was for a treat and I've paid that in a wetherspoons for dinner that was rubbish so that's how I compare it. However over the past few years the prices have risen a lot. The is always lukewarm at best, hence the last few visits I always order tea as at least it's reasonably hot. The food is ok, but overpriced for what it is. Going with 2 people for a simple and 1 drink is always around £40 and for the quality it is, it's simply not worth it. We can go more locally and have a sized and a couple of huge *hot* coffees for around £25. So our visits had become less frequent anyway. We went again the other day only because it's a setting and it was a day for a drive, but we ordered the sourdough bread with avocado, bacon and 2 eggs at £10,75 and I was horrified when the plate came with 1 very small slice of rockhard sourdough and the eggs were lukewarm. I honestly felt the portion size was totally inadequate versus the price. I have never complained, not even about the always tepid coffee, but now I did. I got a refund, fair enough, and was offered to have anything else, but at that point I was just not bothered anymore because I have had mostly everything on the menu and nothing really appealed to me, as it's just not that great really. So now we will definitely not be back unfortunately as in the meantime we have found better options that are more value for money, plus closer by. It is quite a drive to get to The Heron. We had given them the benefit of the doubt for ages, as it really is in a lovely setting, and would go back sporadically only to be underwhelmed at the food versus price. It seems The Heron have come to that cusp in their business where the rises do not warrant the overall product anymore. Hopefully The Heron will listen to these reviews as it is not just us. We hear a lot of people saying the same, that it is overpriced for what it is, and have also found better options. It is sad, because we would really love to go back if things improve. But as it stands now The Heron if off our list of regular to-go-to places. We had arrived 30 minutes before closing time on a Sunday, after trying to find somewhere that was open after travelling through Scotland, with the and children. When we first walked in we were reminded a few times they were closing shortly, which I said we knew can we just get some drinks and cake please. Unsure if she was the owner but was very rude from the first step in there, I proceeded to order cake and drinks for our family even though we were being rudely starred at (spent about ~£25). We had to rush everything down (being watched) and get out promptly for when they closed, as to which she basically shown us where the door was, and then stared at us all the way down the steps to our car. Overall horrible experience, I get that you’re closing but custom is custom and your attitude was far from acceptable. We actually left quite upset about the whole experience. Yummy food the service is super good, one of the ginger waitresses was really and really made our day, she was super helpful. I didn’t read the specials on the way in and she told them to us!!
