We've been customers of The Bakery Shack since we moved to Donegal Town in 2022, and discovered by pure chance, exploring Google Maps and looking for something different. I can give you an honest review across three years. Initially we might have been there once every 2-3 weeks, recently we are more often, probably 1-2 times per week on average, so I have pretty clear view on consistency and other aspects of this business. First of all - five stars is for the overall experience and I see it as a fair reward, despite small ups and downs along the way. You won't find bakings matching the quality of The Bakery Shack elsewhere. If you do, please let me know. Being a resident of Ireland for nearly two decades, and visiting different spots, trying savoury foods as well as pastries and cakes, I found the industry falling into consistently bleak average. Similar scones everywhere, similar pastries and brownies across country, no innovation, or rather failed attempts to be fancy, and ending miserably with good looking tasteless decorations. Not HERE. While you might not like everything that "shack" has to offer, the sheer variety and freshness of bakings plus lower sugar content in general (so you can actually taste something) - these are all huge advantages of The Bakery Shack's produce. Savoury food isn't blowing you away, but is good quality and FRESH (not a given these days). This (in combination with bakings) should give you enough already to get the big picture. Now for the coffee. Signature Carrow's is of great quality. Selections of syrups to sweeten the day, plus options for different types (including iced coffees and plant based "milks") - all of that in one place. Extras, e.g. Little Mamma's ice cream, and plenty of other artisan produce, make it a little gem that's very hard to find elsewhere. Staff always friendly and ready to address your queries. Ramp available for wheelchair access. Small sit up area just outside (or a bigger one with picnic tables on the opposite end of the site). All of that within 10-15 minutes walk from Rossnowlagh Sandhouse Hotel area (via beach -> slipway -> uphill towards friary). I wish all the best to the owners and anyone supporting this lovely spot. Have many years of fruitful and rewarding operations guys! More spots like this are needed, but I know it is not as easy to make it happen, as it sounds. Found this little place opposite the Friary. Lovely inside. Nice food, fab and lots of jars and containers of artisan foods to take home. Lots of wasps outside though and little birds to catch the crumbs.. Pleasant staff too... Husband got clam chowder....he said it was the best chowder he had gotten in a long time, came with beautiful home made brown bread and was piping hot. and brownies were excellent. Great selection of homemade goodies We have been here twice now. We were overcharged for two teas that we didn't order on our second visit. Found the ordering and paying for food a little unorganised, both times. Quite a long wait for our orders too, maybe it was just a busy time, I feel like it could be run a lot smoother with more staff training. Don't think I will return but it's worth a visit if you havnt been. Excellent coffee, delicious baked goods, but service so slow they must be picking the beans on demand. Delicious treat! Had a vegan gingerbread and a almond milk coffee. Both were delicious and fresh. The breakfast menu looked tasty with a fair bit of variety. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice little shop too for specialty foods from Ireland. Absolutely beautiful artesian local fresh produce. Friendly and pleasant staff. And priced fairly well. Would really recommend a vist. Located beside a beautiful friary too. Picked up some lovely treats today. The place also has exceptional, freshly made coffee, at very good market prices. I saw a comment complain about the price and it for sure is a fair price for the coffee. Most central European countries charge well over 4 euro for barista coffee: this is not some petrol station machine coffee.
