Worth a visit and great if you have the strength to climb the steps to the top of the column for great views of the channel. Museum open to learn more of the history and to see artefacts. Gardens around base of column to walk around. Worth a short visit to have a look around. Why do they close so early? There must be wonderful view at the sunset evening... but it is closed... Really nice jewel to discover. Dedicate 1 hr to go to the top (300 steps) get a nice view of the city, but not miss to watch the original statueat the small museum next to the entrance hall... really worth it! Great site. Great climb to the top up a never ending spiral staircase, Amazing views of the surrounding country side and the south cost of England, 20 minutes drive from Calais well worth the visit 10/10 Stopped off at this monument just for a quick peek but unfortunately it was closed at the time (check opening times before visiting but at TOR it was 2 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon). Mea culpa.... However, it looks mighty damn impressive and you might get a great view from inside the monument. Also a bit mad to have a monument to the glory of Napoleon and the Grande Armée that was stopped, started, stopped then finished off years after their final defeat. I saw it more as a memorial to the dead really. Also reminds me somewhat ironically of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square..... The weather was not good so we were not allowed to climb up.
